Katelyn loves photographs. I can just about imagine her having old vintage cameras sitting on shelves around her house, complete with film cartridges – both empty & full. In fact, as I arrived at her family home for her & Lyle’s engagement session, she was all giddy with excitement because new filters for her camera had just arrived! She’s a photographer’s kindred spirit. Like Anne of Green Gables & Diana who lived next door.
And photographs are what brought Katelyn & Lyle together. Her Dad had suggested she come down to the shop where he worked to take some photos of the updates & renovations that had just taken place. She walked through the door with just her camera in hand, but walked back out with Lyle’s heart. They giggled together – it was just about love at first sight. He couldn’t let her get away. He had to know – who was this cute, bubbly girl with the long braid hanging down her back & the camera in her hands?
They got to know each other & one snowy, wintery, cold day – he walked her out the path behind her Grandparent’s barn. It was dark & they had on head-lamps. He said he wanted to show her something. They stopped at the most enormous tree you’ve ever seen. Photographs do not do it justice – it makes every other tree look like a sapling next to it’s grandeur and mightiness. It was there – that he got down on one knee & asked her to keep hold of his heart forever – and of course, she said yes.
So of course, there was only once place that made sense to begin their engagement photos: under the branches of that huge & glorious tree.
