If I’ve learned anything from being in the wedding industry for the last 15 years, it’s that the wedding world is ever shifting, changing, and evolving.
And in 2023, we were introduced to a brand new category of wedding vendor, which has taken the wedding world by storm.
The Wedding Day Content Creator.
You’ve heard it said that: “Content is king”? That’s true for businesses, authors, celebrities, and on wedding days too.
Now, if you aren’t active on social media, you’ve likely not heard of a “Wedding Day Content Creator” – and you’re probably wondering what in the world that is.
However, if you’ve dabbled on Instagram or TikTok or simply listened to wedding-centered podcasts over the last 9 months, you’ve likely heard whispers of this “new thing”.
So, let me answer a few questions and clear up a few “myths” that I’ve uncovered in my research into Wedding Day Content Creators.
What is a Wedding Day Content Creator?
A Wedding Day Content Creator is someone who comes in on a wedding day with a vision for creating content for the bride and groom to share afterward via social media.
Let’s dig into that a bit deeper.
We all have smart phones and we are all addicted to social media. In 2024 and 2025, more weddings are being inspired by TikTok and Instagram than being inspired by wedding magazines and Pinterest. And so, it simply follows, that brides and grooms want to share their amazing wedding days with the world via the platforms that have inspired them: TikTok and Instagram.
And that’s where a Wedding Day Content Creator comes in. They arrive on the wedding day in order to create content specifically for social media. Most Wedding Day Content Creators have a plan in place (formulated with the bride and groom) as to which content will be strategically created – whether that’s re-creating specific TikTok trends or simply creating beautiful short-form content.
How is a Wedding Day Content Creator different from a Videographer or Photographer?
There are several ways that a Wedding Day Content Creator differs from a professional wedding videographer and photographer.
And the biggest, easiest-to-spot way is that a professional videographer will be shooting horizontal footage, on high-quality video cameras, with professional mics, sound equipment, and lighting, and their end product will be optimized to watch on your TV.
Likewise: a professional photographer will be shooting on high-quality cameras, with interchangeable lenses, off-camera flashes, and their end product is optimized to be printed for display in albums and on walls.
On the other hand: a Wedding Day Content Creator is typically filming vertical videos that are optimized for social media – and they shoot everything on their phones! They are looking to capture the behind the scenes moments on a wedding day and then deliver the raw footage to the bride and groom within 24 hours.
In other words: the bride and groom can wake up the morning after their wedding with a folder full of memories that they can begin re-living and enjoying as they leave for their honeymoon.
Professional Photography and Videography is an art-form – and art takes time.
It can take 6+ weeks to get your professional wedding photos back.
It can take 6+ months to get your professional wedding film back.
And that’s completely fine!
But for the couples who just don’t want to wait that long – a Wedding Day Content Creator will have your footage ready for you the very next day.
Additionally: Wedding Day Content Creators deliver raw, unedited footage (something both the professional photographer and videographer would never dream of doing). They give the bride and groom permission to edit, color-correct, chop-up, and create anything that their heart’s desire! Most Wedding Day Content Creators do create a set number of “ready-made” short-form content pieces that the bride and groom can instantly post – but outside of that, the sky is the limit!
In other words: if a bride and groom are active on social media and they want footage at their disposal to do whatever they’d like with – they need a Wedding Day Content Creator.
Is a Wedding Day Content Creator for me?
Wedding Day Content Creators are a brand new wildfire in the wedding industry – so (especially if you’re very active on social media), you might feel pressured to hire one.
Having a Wedding Day Content Creator is not right for every wedding day though and there are a few easy questions to consider to determine whether it’s something you should add into your budget or not.
- Has your wedding day planning been heavily influenced by social media – and you have a strong desire to share your amazing day with social media?
- Do you want an element of control over the footage that’s taken on your wedding day? Maybe you have a photography or videography background and you’re familiar with editing photos and videos – and you just can’t imagine relinquishing all control over to your professional photographer and videographer (as amazing as I’m sure they are). Is it important to you that you can have the freedom to edit some of the footage taken on your wedding day?
- Are you the type of person who just can’t wait to see photos and videos from your wedding day?
- Do you already have a few TikTok trends you want to film on your wedding day but you just aren’t sure how you’re going to remember and squeeze it in?
- Have you had the thought: “Well, I’ll just ask a friend or family member to take as many photos and videos as they can on their phone for me”?
If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, I’d strongly consider hiring a Wedding Day Content Creator! Not only will you receive the behind the scenes photos and videos you’re hoping for (complete with the freedom to edit that footage) but you can give your friends and family permission to put their phones away and enjoy your wedding day with you!
INTRODUCING: Kara Abbey – Pittsburgh Wedding Day Content Creator
Now, if you know me personally – you know that I have been a professional wedding photographer for the last 15 years. But I’ve also been creating content for my husband (and more recently myself) centered around our travels and love of roller coasters for the last 5 years.
A few weeks ago, a good friend pitched me the idea of combining my love and expertise of wedding days, with my passion and enthusiasm for content creation, in order to step into the Wedding Day Content Creation world.
At first I said, “No, I promised myself I wouldn’t start any new businesses in 2024.” But she convinced me that it wasn’t really a “new” thing – it was just the marrying together of two separate passions.
I did a ton of research (including a virtual consult with a leading Wedding Day Content Creator up in New York City) and decided – okay, let’s do this.
In other words: I am still a professional wedding photographer – but I am now also a Wedding Day Content Creator – and I would LOVE to be there on your wedding day in either capacity.

I can’t wait to see what we create together!
