I don’t photograph a lot of seniors, so when the opportunity arises – it’s always such a fun break away from photographing wedding days & couples in love! I love the challenge of meeting a teenager who is entering their final year of high school, with literally the entire world before them, and finding out what makes them tick. What are their dreams & aspirations? Do they like school? Are they excited to graduate? High school takes up so much of a young person’s life, it’s looming end is always an exciting (and sometimes terrifying) place to be!
This is Josh.
Josh & I are actually related (which made taking his senior photos even more fun). He & Derrick are second-cousins, so I guess that technically makes us “second-cousin-in-laws”? Eh, let’s just say, cousins – that’s so much easier (especially since Derrick & I have been married for more than half of Josh’s life).
We got together a few weeks ago, on literally the perfect summer day, to celebrate Josh’s senior year. He’s a busy kid: he plays basketball, works 2 jobs, and is ironing out his plans for college next year! He’s such a sweetheart, with a soft spot for his Mama, is super sincere, and has kindness flowing through his veins.
Of course, since basketball is a huge love, we had to pay tribute to his love of the game & we kicked off our time in a place where Josh feels super comfortable – the basketball court. I think if I would have let him, Josh would have played basketball all afternoon!
After he got good & sweaty playing basketball (and showing off all of his skills), he changed into a more casual outfit. The area around the basketball courts offered the perfect backdrop!
What are senior photos without at least one photo of a guy & his car? Of course, with a healthy dose of teasing because his car might have needed a bath! Good thing guys don’t care & are simply super proud of whatever car they drive!
It was definitely warm out, but we had promised Josh’s Grandma that we would get at least a few photos in his new suit – and I’m so glad we did!
