I love asparagus because of this family.
And that may be the most crazy introduction sentence I have ever written for a wedding post!
But it’s true!
The first time I met Lynette, I was taking portraits for her for an award presentation. She had won a very prestigious award at work and was being honored at a large company dinner. She needed specific head-shots & family photos taken for the presentation. I absolutely fell in love with Lynette – her soft-spoken and sweet nature, her caring spirit and selfless attitude, and her attention to detail. We spent two days taking those photos & I had the best time with her, her co-workers, her family, and this guy named Joe that she was dating.
How does the asparagus come in to this story? Well, her Dad & I had the most beautiful time talking while we were at his house – and he had this amazing huge garden. Literally – his garden was enormous and absolutely gorgeous! Such a labor of love! And he was generous enough to give me a huge bag of asparagus at the end of day 2. This was not asparagus like you buy in the store – oh no. This was asparagus from Mount Olympus – huge and melt-in-your-mouth amazing! I never eat asparagus anymore without thinking of this sweet family!
During those two days – Lynette & I talked a lot. She told me all about Joe – who she had been dating for some time. She told me he was such a hard worker, had a soft spot for her nieces and nephews, and how he could make her laugh. Someday, she said, they would get married. And she promised to call when he finally popped the question. I’ll never forget the day I got that oh-so-excited email: “Well, he did it! He asked me to marry him and now he’s my fiancé!” I couldn’t have been happier!
Joe & Lynette’s wedding day dawned blue-skied and glorious. Their day swelled & overflowed with emotion, for so many reasons: for family members who couldn’t be there and for two people who couldn’t be happier to finally join their lives together.
And as Lynette walked down the aisle, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the church – including my own.
Joe & Lynette – it was absolutely the greatest honor to be there to photograph your beautiful wedding day. I was so blessed & I wish you both all the joy & happiness in the world as you now do life together.
In lieu of a traditional bouquet, Lynette carried her Mom’s Bible tied with gorgeous baby’s breath & white roses. It was a beautiful way to honor her Mom, who passed away several years ago.
And while I was photographing the ladies – my sister & second-shooter, Ellen, was capturing the guys!
And this is precisely why having a second-shooter is so invaluable! Sure, I can photograph your wedding by myself, but without Ellen, I never would have gotten this image! It’s one of my favorite shots of the whole day – right before Lynette walked down the aisle she was simply overcome. Every time I see this photo, I tear up just thinking about this moment – right before a bride walks down the aisle to become a wife.
This family – I just love them.
I have known some of them for a long time – some of them I had just met that day – but if there was ever a family I would want to be adopted into – it’s this family.
The reception was at the Owego Treadway Inn and the details were absolutely gorgeous!
