It’s not every day I get to photograph an engagement session for two nurses in the middle of a pandemic.
Once upon a time, Jeff was working at Westmoreland Hospital. He was precepting for new medical students there – and one of those students was Cassey.
Now, before your mind runs away with making up a quick love story centered around scrubs & stethoscopes & the halls of Westmoreland Hospital – that is not exactly what happened. Jeff & Cassey became friends during that time, yes, but that was about it. Both were in other relationships, so an easy-going, mutual friendship was as far as things went.
I burst your bubble, didn’t I?
You know the story can’t end there though (obviously, this is their engagement blog post after all!) Fast forward in time – Cassey had finished her rotation at Westmoreland Hospital & hadn’t seen or chatted with Jeff in a while. Conveniently though, her best friend found herself working alongside Jeff & since both were now single, Cassey’s best friend offered to get Jeff’s Snapchat username for her. Recalling their old sweet, easy-going friendship, Cassey agreed & now you can let your mind run away with the rest of their story.
They instantly hit it off & well, you can say the rest is history.
We got together a few weeks ago to capture photos to celebrate this amazing & exciting time that is “being engaged”. All day long, we watched the forecast. It had been extremely hot & humid for a few days leading up to their session – and since we live in south-western PA, we knew that it was a perfect recipe for severe thunderstorms. Our weather apps kept reassuring us that it would be sunny & completely dry thru the entire evening though, so we went for it!
We met in the parking lot at Twin Lakes & then walked up the path to where I wanted to start. As Cassey was changing her shoes, we heard the wind whistle thru the trees & looked up to realize: it was about to start raining. We ducked under a nearby pavilion for cover just as one of those “severe pop-up thunderstorms” rolled in. Turns out, we’re better weathermen than whoever runs the weather apps on our phones – because we totally called those storms!
It downpoured for quite a while – long enough that I was getting nervous that we would have to call it quits & reschedule our time together for another evening. But then, finally, the sun broke through, the clouds rolled away, and we ended up having the most gorgeous evening ever (we just had to wait an extra 45 minutes to get it!)
I absolutely cannot wait for Jeff & Cassey’s wedding next summer! We had such a fabulous time together – their wedding is going to be incredible!
