Don’t listen to a word my daughter says (who proclaimed at the dinner table tonight, “This has been the LONGEST wait between birthdays EVER”) the year is simply flying by.
And I swear, September flew by even faster than August.
September is always a super busy month for us: we’re usually trying to squeeze in our last roller coaster rides of the season, the fall wedding season is kicking into full gear, and school is starting! In year’s past, I have done a sub-par job of documenting our family-life in September. I always seem to do a pretty good, consistent job until September rolls around and then I fall off the wagon (don’t worry, I always get back on in October and finish the year strong).
If you look at our family yearbooks: September is traditionally the least documented month.
Knowing this: I specifically set a goal to be better this September. I didn’t want the chaos of life to go undocumented, I wanted to REMEMBER this September.
And I’m happy to report: I believe I accomplished that goal.
It was a busy month, and it flew by at the speed of light, but it was absolutely wonderful.
Life moves too fast & the best way I know to preserve it is to snatch these fleeting moments before they fly away & bottle them up so they are never lost.
Moments of note this month:
(0:07) It took all summer, but Braelynn finally worked up the courage to jump off the dock (in the deep end) at our cabin on Deep Creek Lake in Maryland!
(0:37) A spontaneous trip to Kerber’s Dairy turned into a spontaneous mini golf outing! (The kids BOTH scored hole-in-ones!)
(2:29) We’ve enjoyed SO much cousin-time this month! Braelynn and Leander have been LOVING it!
(3:31) My sister Amy put together a surprise birthday party for her husband, Nathan!
(4:45) We discovered a nest of baby bunnies in our yard
(5:39) Our last weekend at the Lake House for the year – normally we are able to visit into October, but photoshoots and weddings and other things are keeping us home
(7:10) End of summer fireworks we were able to watch one block from our house
(10:25) Baby bunny update!
(10:46) Braelynn has been begging us to let her have a lemonade stand all summer, so we finally made it happen! She was hilarious and quite the salesperson!
Just in case you’ve missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is to be around 10 minutes) video of my favorite snippets. I am SO excited to finally have a dedicated place to chronicle my family videos & keep them safe & accessible.
Enjoy a little peek into what our September looked like!
