October is always one of my most favorite months of the year.
Not only is it my birthday month.
Not only is the weather (typically) wonderful.
Not only is it peak fall and the leaves are changing.
But it’s just a wonderful month.
The month is always full-to-bursting with activities, photo sessions and weddings, and fall fun – and this year was no exception.
Aside from some sickness that plagued us at the beginning of the month – it’s been one of the most BEAUTIFUL Octobers I ever remember. It’s only rained like once this month (of course, it was on the day I had planned for mini sessions, so I had to reschedule all of those!) but it’s been absolutely stunning. We’ve had our windows open every day, spent as much time outside in the sun as possible – it’s been an absolute delight.
Moments of note this month:
(0:01) It’s just a given that LEGO bricks are a huge part of our day-to-day – if our kids aren’t playing with the mini-figures and stretching their imaginations, they’re building intricate designs that blow my mind!
(0:20) Braelynn’s been working on creating her very first own original crochet pattern. She’s created a lot of crochet projects on her own, but this is the first time she’s actually written the steps down to create a pattern! It’s a labor of love she’s still working on, but she’s getting closer to finishing it!
(1:09) Thanks to Toy Story 5, Buzz and Woody have made a BIG comeback in the Abbey house!
(2:18) I think this marks their third lemonade/craft stand for the year? Every one has evolved to be bigger and better – I love seeing their creativity come to life!
(2:39) Fire safety day at our homeschool co-op
(3:54) Happy birthday to ME!
(8:21) Squeezing in one last visit to Kennywood during their Fall Fest – next time we visit will be for Holiday Lights!
(8:53) Carving our pumpkins
(10:03) The Harvest Carnival at our church
(11:03) Trick-Or-Treating (last year, we were in Arizona on Halloween, so it was fun to return to our “normal” trick-or-treating around our neighborhood!) My favorite part of the night though was: we came home and the kids instantly dumped out their candy and sorted through it. We found out a few weeks ago that Leander is allergic to Red-40, and SO MUCH CANDY has Red-40 in it – so they pulled everything with synthetic coloring out and decided, since there was still about 30 minutes left to trick-or-treating, to sit outside and see if they could pass all of it back out to families still walking around. Amazingly – they were able to give about 90% of it away and they both agreed it was SO FUN to pass out candy to all the trick-or-treaters!
Just in case you’ve missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is to be around 10 minutes) video of my favorite snippets. I am SO excited to finally have a dedicated place to chronicle my family videos & keep them safe & accessible.
Enjoy a little peek into what our October looked like!
