Every month, I download all of the photos & videos from my phone onto my computer. From there, I pull all of my video files into Final Cut Pro, to make our monthly “daily life” video.
And every month, I have the same feeling: “Did I actually take enough videos to make a film this month?”
It’s just so funny because – I take photos and videos of my kids without even thinking about it! It has become so second-nature, that it doesn’t even register that I’m doing it.
And every month, as I pull all of the videos in, I’m always shocked at how much I have.
This month? I had 215 videos – which if I did not curate and simply stacked end-on-end, would total over 1 hour of play time.
(And, those 215 videos DO NOT include the last days of our Florida vacation, our day at Kennywood, our day at Hersheypark, or our day at Sandcastle!)
I bet you have more videos than you realize too.
The question is: what are you doing with them?
I have a plan and a purpose: I curate them every month into a complete film.
I’d love to do the same for you.
Life moves too fast & the best way I know to preserve it is to snatch these fleeting moments before they fly away & bottle them up so they are never lost.
Moments of note this month:
(0:18) Puddle jumping!
(0:31) Meeting Baby Leon – Braelynn & Leander’s brand new cousin for the first time! He was born while we were on vacation in Florida!
(0:52) Mother’s Day breakfast in bed by Braelynn
(1:49) My sister Emma’s “bachelorette” party – it was just us sisters and Braelynn and baby Leo – such a sweet time together before Emma and Luis eloped!
(2:27) Braelynn finally conquers the new rings we got for our swingset! (I love her “victory” laugh!) (We bought these ones off of Amazon: https://amzn.to/3trDHYw
(3:14) THE BIGGEST NEWS OF THE MONTH! We enclosed our front porch! It’s still not 100% complete, but it’s really close!! We’re so thankful that Derrick’s parents were able to come down & help us with this project! (You’ll see it progress through the entire video!)
(4:16) Lightning!
(4:48) First weekend at Deep Creek Lake! First time swimming (even though the overall temperature was warm, the water was FREEZING!)
(6:21) My little sister graduated from high school & is recognized at my family’s church in Oakland, MD
(8:19) Last day of school!
(8:45) We celebrated Derrick’s birthday a few weeks early with his parents
(9:17) Gardening
(10:33) We Don’t Talk About Bruno
Just in case you’ve missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is to be around 10 minutes) video of my favorite snippets. I am SO excited to finally have a dedicated place to chronicle my family videos & keep them safe & accessible.
Enjoy a little peek into what our May looked like!
