Gotta love a month that starts out with snow and ends with sunshine and temps that are warm enough to go for walks and ride bikes and scooters around the block!
Our family currently has two very heavy themes and if you watch this video, it’s fairly obvious what they are (they even collide at certain points) – Legos (an obsession that’s been going on for quite some time) and Star Wars.
The kids started to really get into Star Wars around Christmas, but that love has only grown as we’ve since finished watching all the Star Wars movies (numbers 1-9), we’ve watched a few of the side movies (Rogue One and the Han Solo movie), and we’ve also watched the entire Mandalorian series (a show I didn’t think the kids would be into but they are 100% OBSESSED with the characters!)
Needless to say: I’m loving everything about this current stage of our kids’ lives. It’s very fun.
Moments of note this month:
(0:05) Since Braelynn’s birthday got “re-arranged” due to the HUGE snowstorm we got, her friends came over to celebrate her on February 1st
(0:58) We were reading the last chapter of Caddie Woodlawn (a book I remember reading as a little girl) and the ending just cut me straight to the heart – Derrick happened to be working from home that day and witnessed me bawling my eyes out as I tried to read the last paragraphs to the kids
(1:37) Leander saw the apple cider vinegar in the fridge & asked what it was – we offered him a taste and this was his reaction
(2:46) Happy Valentine’s Day!
(4:01) The kids ordered Lego sets with the Valentine money they received and Derrick pulled a prank on them with the Amazon box!
(5:04) Leander also realized he could build puzzles this month – turns out, the concept is very similar to Legos, so he very quickly became obsessed
(6:34) We read about the Wright Brothers in history this month and got a movie about them from the library – Leander was so enamored that he watched the movie at least 10 times!

(7:35) Happy birthday to my sister, Emma!
(8:37) Derrick and I were testing out different lapel mics and just recording random clips, but then things got a bit hilarious

(8:57) Braelynn was invited to go ice skating with some friends before their birthday party and she was an instant pro (all her roller blading skills really kicked in and she did so good!)
Just in case you’ve missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is to be around 10 minutes) video of my favorite snippets. I am SO excited to finally have a dedicated place to chronicle my family videos & keep them safe & accessible.
