Is anyone else in denial that it’s already mid-September and August is long gone? (Please, someone tell me that it’s not just me.)
August was a BUSY month for our family – we did SO MUCH (which is probably why it flew by at the breakneck pace that it did). I honestly did not take as many “daily life” videos as I usually do (which would come as a surprise, since this video still ended up being over 9 minutes long). We simply had some more memorable “events” that I included a lot of videos from that made up the majority of this monthly highlight. (I don’t include any of our travels in these “Abbey Archive” films – I compile all of those together under the “Adventuring Abbeys” title.) Between traveling and wedding season kicking into full-gear, August truly passed in a blur.
Derrick & I were invited to a media event at Three Rivers Karting – an indoor go-karting entertainment center with axe-throwing, an arcade, and food! We had so much fun!
We traveled A LOT at the beginning of August – my wedding season (I’m a full-time, professional wedding photographer) really started in earnest mid-August, so we filled the beginning of the month with as many roller coaster rides as we could! Because we did so much and then I’ve had weddings every weekend since, I’ve gotten way behind on putting together our Adventuring Abbey vlogs – so stay tuned! I’ll have Kings Dominion, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Six Flags Great Adventure, Dutch Wonderland, Kings Island, AND Cedar Point vlogs all coming out soon (now that I’ve hit a 2-week breather between wedding weekends, I have a little bit of time to get caught up)!
Life moves too fast & the best way I know to preserve it is to snatch these fleeting moments before they fly away & bottle them up so they are never lost.
Moments of note this month:
(0:01) The Annual Norwin Community Picnic! My Dad is the emcee of the event & it always is such a fun gathering. This year, instead of the Picnic taking place at Idlewild Park, the Norwin Chamber hosted the event at the Irwin Park and it was a HUGE, smashing success!
(1:26) Braelynn gives a tour of her bedroom
(3:09) Kennywood Park did a fun week of giveaways for their season passholders – every day they hid golden kangaroos around the park and they gave out prizes for whoever found them! We went one day and WE FOUND A GOLDEN KANGAROO!! We won a Yeti cooler!! It was seriously one of the most exciting things I have ever done in an amusement park!
(4:03) We had a bat make it’s way into our house. Derrick caught it and we did give it to the PA Wildlife Department to test for rabies (he came back healthy!) But, man, we hate bats!
(4:14) Extended time at Deep Creek Lake
(7:24) We started the 2022-2023 school-year! I wasn’t planning on doing too much organized school with Leander (he’s only 3), but after watching Braelynn do school, he has been anxious to do school too!
(7:41) We visited Idlewild Park one Sunday afternoon (and met Daniel Tiger and Katarina!)
(8:27) Braelynn got a big haircut!!
Just in case you’ve missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is to be around 10 minutes) video of my favorite snippets. I am SO excited to finally have a dedicated place to chronicle my family videos & keep them safe & accessible.
Enjoy a little peek into what our August looked like!
