The theme of the month was April was “surprises” – some were great surprises, and some were kind of not-so-great.
The GREAT surprises included:
-me pulling a small (but mighty) prank on my kids for April Fool’s Day (it was hilarious).
-when we siblings successfully pulled off a surprise birthday dinner for my Mom. Also, since we gathered on the day before my sister, Ellen’s birthday, we made sure we had a special surprise cake for her as well.
-and a small surprise bridal shower for my sister Emma who is getting married in early May.
The not-so-great surprises included:
The kids getting sick and pretty much staying sick for the entire month of April (or at least, that’s what it’s felt like). Both Braelynn & Leander came down with colds the week of Easter and while Braelynn avoided it long enough to participate in the Easter egg hunt at church – they both were sick for Easter Sunday. Oh well. We made the best of it here at home and enjoyed a chill Easter Sunday (both in the “laid-back” and “chilly” sense of the word).
April was also one giant COUNT-DOWN month for us! We found ourselves wishing away the days as we anxiously awaited the end of the month. “But why?” you ask? Because the last week of April brought our first big family trip of the year! More on that coming soon!! (Spoiler alert: it was MAGICAL.)
Life moves too fast & the best way I know to preserve it is to snatch these fleeting moments before they fly away & bottle them up so they are never lost.
Moments of note this month:
(0:30) I’ve never been a huge April Fool’s Day person, but when I saw someone talking about the “snake in a can” they got from Amazon, I knew I just had to pull this joke on my kids! It was 100% worth it (and them, in turn, pranking other people was HILARIOUS)
(1:22) We all showed up at my parent’s house to surprise my Mom with a big birthday dinner!
(1:43) And then we surprised my sister by having a special cake for her birthday too!
(4:27) Measuring kids leading up to our big trip! Leander was just a SMIDGE under 40″ and we were really hoping he would grow & hit that mark (so he could ride just about every ride at Disney with us) and (spoiler alert) HE DID!
(4:44) Easter egg hunt at church
(4:56) Because Leander was sick and missed the Easter egg hunt at church, Braelynn brought her eggs home and hid half of them for him
(5:22) Both of the kids ended up with colds for Easter Sunday, so we stayed home & had a chill day (not what we had planned, but “plans” with children rarely happen “as planned”)
(7:50) Another surprise party – this time for my sister Emma! A surprise bridal shower before she & Luis elope early in May!
(8:36) SNOW?!
(9:01) Packing for our big trip!!
Just in case you’ve missed what I’m doing – I decided that I wanted to create a curated “home video” for our family every month (remember those old “home movies” our families used to create? with the giant video recorders that an entire VHS tape fit in?) Those videos were fantastic, but if you’ve ever sat down to watch one (does anyone even own a VHS player anymore?) you very quickly realize that you do a lot of “fast-forwarding”.
So, my goal, is to take all the little videos I take of our family over the course of a month & create a short (my goal is to be around 10 minutes) video of my favorite snippets. I am SO excited to finally have a dedicated place to chronicle my family videos & keep them safe & accessible.
Enjoy a little peek into what our April looked like!
