This month’s I Heart Faces theme is “black & white” – and I’d be lying if I said it was easy to choose one black & white image!
As I work each session and edit it’s images, if a certain photo strikes me as iconic or classic or emotional, I’ll edit it in color but then will convert it to black & white. Sucking all of the color out of an image suddenly draws your eyes in in a completely different way – there are no more distractions – you’re left with a raw image. Black & white doesn’t necessarily work for every photo, as sometimes the color plays too much of a part in telling the story. But when it works, wow does it work.
This is one of my absolute favorite black & white images from Marlee & Andrew’s engagement session last fall – the moment I took it I knew I had to convert it to black & white! And as I was sorting thru’ images, looking for the right one to submit in this month’s challenge, I kept coming back to it and couldn’t quite get away from it, so I figured this must be the one I’m meant to submit.
