Happy Halloween from our pair of NINJAS!
Braelynn and Leander have been very much obsessed with the Lego Ninjago characters for a long time. Leander’s favorite character is Jay and Braelynn loves Nya and Wyldfyre (and many others).
I consign and shop at this massive kids sale 2-3 times a year that happens in Monroeville and during their back-to-school sale earlier this summer, Leander made a very specific request. As I was walking out the door, he said: “Please find me a Jay costume!”
I knew exactly what he meant and had already tried to find him a Jay costume online, but I really couldn’t find one I liked. The “official” Lego costumes I found included large Lego block heads that I knew he wouldn’t like. There are non-official ninja costumes I found that would work, but they weren’t officially “Jay”. I told him that I would do my best but not to get his hopes up.
So, you can imagine my shock and massive excitement when I went back to browse the costume section of the sale and actually found an official Jay ninja costume – IN HIS SIZE. I literally jumped for joy. I was more excited to find this costume for my sweet boy than anything else at that sale. Brining it home and putting it in his hands made my Mama-heart burst with happiness.
He’s been wearing it on a very regular basis ever since.
In other words, for Halloween, it was obvious what Leander wanted to dress up as: Jay.
And since Leander had such an awesome costume, Braelynn wanted a Nya costume just like it in the worst way. The only problem was (once again), I couldn’t find one.
We did eventually settle on this “non-official” ninja costume (from Target – it was actually on sale and we got it at a really great price!) that is similar to Nya’s outfit, but not quite. Thankfully, Braelynn wasn’t as picky as her brother and they have both been happily traipsing around as ninjas for the last month. (I’m sure our neighbors think we’re insane when these two masked/hooded characters go running around our back yard!)
Side note: it was a bit sad taking these photos without our Abby-dog – but let’s be honest: she would have hated me putting a ninja mask on her head (although, like the good sport she always was: she would have put up with it for a handful of treats!)
There are a lot of “holiday photos” that I’ve taken every single year with Abby and the kids and as we round the corner on that time of year (again), Braelynn asked me the other day: “Are we still going to take some of those photos? The Red Cup one and the Christmas Tree one?” It made me so sad, but I said: “YES.” I literally wouldn’t miss out on documenting another year going by with our kids that are getting so big! And maybe, one day, we’ll have another dog we can add back into the mix – but until then, I’m determined to continue documenting my family as I always have!
