(I won’t spill the beans, but if you’ve read any of my past “happy birthday” posts (2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, & 2016) you can figure out how old Derrick is turning this weekend! I’ll give you a hint: it’s old.)
TODAY is a big day.
Not because it’s Tuesday or particularly perfect outside (70º & sunshine, um, yes please!) but because today is Derrick’s birthday.
In case you’ve never had the privilege of meeting my husband, let me introduce you:
Derrick is my best friend. He is insanely hard working, driven, and dedicated. He is the vision-caster of our family and the “how-can-we-make-this-happen” one. He is the spontaneous, fun-loving, carefree half of our marriage. He is constantly reading, learning, and figuring out new (better) ways to provide for our family (he truly is a wealth of information when it comes to credit card bonuses, points, and reward programs). He is the planner, the researcher, and the executer when it comes to our various travels (which I appreciate more than you know!) I trust him implicitly and love how seriously he takes his role as husband, provider, and father.
Did I mention that he’s an incredible father? Braelynn and Leander literally run to meet him every single day. He’s the one who will never turn down a race around the yard, is always up for ice cream, and prays with them every single night before bed.
Are you impressed that I haven’t mentioned roller coasters yet?
I feel like: Derrick is synonymous with roller coasters – that’s what most people know him as (“that roller coaster guy”). And for good reason. He’s been obsessed with roller coasters since he was a little boy and that passion continues to guide our travels to this day. He continues to grow his YouTube channel and his tribe of very loyal followers.
2024 has been a weird year for us (lots of moving, shifting pieces), but I love the way Derrick has led our family and continues to press forward. He works insanely hard at his “real” job and his “part time job” (as a YouTuber), but never fails to make time to spend with me or the kids.
Derk: I love you so much and I’m so thankful for who you are and what you do for our family – not just today, but every single day.
Happy birthday, Derrick!
Love, Kara
PS – if you’d like to give Derrick a little birthday present, it’s really easy to do so! Visit his Instagram account and his YouTube channel & subscribe to both – that will make his day!
