Happy Birthday, Derrick (XscreamThrills)

So, this post is a little early.
Derrick’s birthday is this weekend, but since I only publish blog posts on Tuesdays and Thursdays – here we are.
Besides, we will be off celebrating Derrick’s birthday this weekend (and into next week) in the only proper fashion for a roller coaster enthusiast: we’ll be off riding roller coasters! We usually try to plan a trip around Derrick’s birthday, and this year is no exception! I’m especially excited for this year though – we’re headed somewhere I’ve wanted to go forever – somewhere we’ve never been before!! Any guesses?

But anyways, I’ve been thinking a lot about birthdays and the milestones they are.
Our kids anxiously await their birthdays. They count down the months and days and hours until their special day. They welcome their birthdays with open arms and celebration.
Derrick and I (on the other hand) are very quickly approaching (if we haven’t already arrived) the stage of life where we wish birthdays wouldn’t come around quite so fast. Because, didn’t we just celebrate Derrick’s birthday, like a few months ago? How has it already been a full year since the last time I wrote this post?!
(I won’t spill the beans, but if you’ve read any of my past “happy birthday” posts (2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, & 2016) you can figure out how old Derrick is turning this weekend!)

It’s true, what they say, about time flying by faster and faster.
But there is no one on the planet I’d rather spend these faster and faster days with than you, Derrick.

I hope today, and tomorrow, and Saturday (your actual birthday), and next week, and next month, and into next year that you know just how much I love you, and your kids love you, and how much we appreciate everything you do for us.
You work hard, you provide for us, and yet you keep your lives exciting with our many adventures.

I can’t wait to see what next year brings.
