I can hardly believe it: but it’s true! I was there! One of my wedding images has been chosen to be featured in Captured::Pittsburgh’s Open Air Gallery in Shadyside. The whole experience has been exhilarating & surreal, but also so humbling because, let’s be honest: some of my favorite Pittsburgh wedding photographers have work in the Gallery hanging right next to my image. So – yeah – talk about a wow moment!
So, part of the whole process was signing a release for them to print my image & filling out a little survey to explain a little bit about myself, what I do, what my style is, and my passion behind it. At the end, the question was posed: “Did you ever think you would be a participant in a Photography Gallery?” and the smart-aleck in me wanted to say: “Of course, I knew it would happen sooner or later.” But I didn’t – I was honest – being a part of a photography gallery wasn’t on my radar at all. I don’t think it was even on my bucket list! Maybe that’s a sign I should be dreaming a bit bigger?
It was so much fun though! We braved the weather (it was raining on the way into Pittsburgh and then changing to snow as we walked up to the gallery space) and when we arrived, all of the prints were covered. Jason directed each of us who were there to our prints & one by one we unveiled our images. Then, after wiping the bottom right corner off, he handed each of us a sharpie & let us sign the print. That was incredible. I had to stretch up on my tip-toes because the gallery is obviously not hung for short people to be able to reach (and Jason didn’t bring me a step-stool), but wow. I had no idea that signing my work would be so exhilarating!
The gallery itself is truly the coolest space! What was once an overgrown walk-through to the parking lot behind the shops in Shadyside, has been transformed into a beautiful area! Every month, the gallery has a theme & the images change (so if you happen to be in Shadyside at any point over the next month, you have to stop by & see my image! The gallery is right across from the Apple Store. Send me a picture, okay?) Jason attends Tiffany’s Tuesday’s Together group that I’ve talked about before (it’s the highlight of my month, if you’re a creative in the Irwin/Greensburg area, you should come!) and he’s been telling us about transforming this space for the gallery for months. It was so exciting to be able to go down & see it, and have one of my own images hanging there!
This is my friend Tiffany’s print! She was supposed to come & ride with us, but came down with some sort of bug at the last minute & couldn’t come!
[…] In case I haven’t shouted it loud enough from the hills (okay, in “real life” I haven’t really shouted at all – that would totally go against my personality-grain, but I feel like I’ve definitely “shouted” it on social media): I had a wedding image open this week in Captured::Pittsburgh’s Open Air Gallery! Derrick & I went down for the grand unveiling for February’s images and wow – what an incredible experience! I still am a little bit in shock that it actually happened!
