Deep Creek Lake, just outside of Oakland, Maryland, is one of my favorite places in the entire world.
Growing up, we pretty much spent every weekend at Grandpa and Meme’s Lake House on Penn Point – and even now, we spend as much time there in the summer as we can (between weddings and roller coasters).
So, whenever someone inquiries with me about family portraits at Deep Creek Lake over the summer, I honestly try my best to book that session – simply because it’s a guaranteed weekend at the Lake for me and my family! Every year, I get a handful of inquiries – and while I have to turn some of them down (due to weddings I already have booked or other trips being planned), I love the opportunities I do have to photograph families gathering at the Lake for some vacation time.
It’s a lot of work, to not only gather your extended family together for a long weekend, but to get everyone to agree to a photo session! But I love when families can pull it off, because these memories are simply precious!
This family was gathering together to celebrate one of their Aunt’s birthdays – they came from literally all over the country: north, south, east, and west! They were simply thrilled to all be together for a few days, especially since some of them live so far away.
