I have never been one to go “tanning”, but every summer I did have one goal in mind: get tan & “beat” my Dad’s tan. Going to a tanning bed was completely out of the question, it would have been cheating – also my Mom always advised as to the dangers of nasty tanning beds – so I only had one solution. All summer long, I’d sit out on my Dad’s boat, soaking in the sunshine, and reading wonderful books.
Every few weeks we’d “measure” – my Dad would hold up his arm & I’d hold mine up to his and we’d compare who was darker. Every time, my Dad would smile and shake his head and make the call that he was winning.
Memorial Day weekend kicks off summer and is the weekend my Dad and I kick off our tanning competition. We have also picked up a few other competitors over the years as most of my siblings also “compete” with us. My lil sister Ruby is the toughest competitor of them all though- watch out Dad!! Ruby’s going to beat us both one of these days!
Derrick and I spent a wonderful relaxing 3-day weekend at the lake-house, and even though we didn’t have much sunshine to tan under, it was still a wonderful relaxing weekend. I got up early Saturday morning to take the dog out and I couldn’t reist marching my pink sweat-panted-butt paired with my Dad’s camo fleece jacket down to the lake to photograph how glorious it was with the sun coming up.
And the full moon was still out from the night before too!
Sunday night was “s’mores” night – and let me just say: my family has taken s’mores to a whole new level. Not only do we sandwich a warm marshmellow and a piece of chocolate between two graham crackers, we add other yummy “toppings” – like peanut butter, Kit-Kat bars, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and we mix it up between milk chocolate & dark chocolate. Goodbye boring s’mores – hello s’mores buffet!!
And – how do you top off a wonderful camp-fire-s’more-filled evening but with a laser show? Brought to you in part by my Dad and my sister Emma.
