Love makes rainy days sunny.
Love makes rocky roads smooth again.
And love makes 67-year-olds young again.
And this past Saturday was proof of all of that – dark rain clouds and challenging decisions had to be made, but I honestly think that Deb and Bill’s vivacious love was what kept the rain drops at bay. Their love turned what was forecast to be a stormy day, into a perfect one (with little peaks of sunshine breaking through).
This isn’t Deb and Bill’s first marriage – Deb’s first husband passed away from cancer almost a decade ago and at the end of his life, he told her that he just wanted her to be happy. He made her promise that she would continue to live her life to the fullest and if she found someone else to love, he wanted her to marry him.
So, about four years ago, Deb decided to create a profile on Match.com – she was just curious and wanting to see what would happen.
Meanwhile, Bill had been divorced for almost 30 years. He also had a profile on Match.com, but he was being very particular about who he talked to – and so far, he just hadn’t met the right person yet.
And how would he know it was the “right” person? He wanted to find someone he felt he could introduce to his Mom.
Deb and Bill found each other and started chatting. Their first date was to get breakfast at Eat ‘n’ Park. And Bill instantly knew: he wanted to take Deb to meet his Mom.
They only dated for about a year when they got engaged. Bill took Deb out to dinner, but he wanted to go back to Eat ‘n’ Park – where they had their first date – to pop the question. So, after dinner, he drove across town, back to the first place that they’d hit it off, and that’s where he asked her to marry him.
And this past Saturday, they officially tied the knot. It was a day of celebration and love and joy – Deb and Bill simply could not stop smiling through the entire day. They counted it an immense privilege to not just have their closest friends and family gathered close for the day, but to finally and officially marry one another.
As I was walking around at the end of cocktail hour, taking some candid photos – I overheard a few of the guests talking to Bill.
They said: “We are so happy for you! You just seem so happy today – it’s been a long time coming.”
To which he responded: “Yes, but she’s been worth the wait.”
(And that’s when I melted into a puddle on the floor.)
Bill’s two grandchildren were their flower girl and ring bearer – and their reactions to seeing Deb in her dress for the first time was so sweet!
Deb and Bill’s bridal party consisted of their children – and it was the sweetest group of people I have ever met!
Dark clouds loomed, but they made the decision to push forward with their outdoor ceremony anyway – and I’m so glad they did!
I don’t typically post grand-entrance photos in my blog posts – but THIS wins as the BEST entrance of all time! Nicole – you are amazing and hilarious and you literally brought the house down!!
And – then the sun broke through and gave us just a tiny bit of golden! It was the perfect way to end a perfect day!
Huge shout-out and thank you to the amazing team of vendors, as well as friends & family, who helped make Deb & Bill’s wedding day absolutely perfect!
