Having just finished anesthesiology school, Dangelica found herself on the epic adventure of moving from Pennsylvania down to Texas. And if that move wasn’t introducing an element of culture shock enough (hello bolo ties and cowboy boots) – it was 2021 and the pandemic still had so much of Pennsylvania very much closed down. However, the state of Texas was an entirely different story.
And so that’s how Dangelica came to meet George (although technically, George doesn’t have any memory of their first meeting). Dangelica’s cousins were hosting a big St. Patrick’s day party and since Dangelica was in Texas scoping out housing before her official move, she came along. George might not remember her, but she definitely clocked him and noted in her mind that that guy was kind of weird.
Fast forward through the cross-country move to the following year when the Super Bowl warranted another party – and this time, George definitely remembers meeting Dangelica. And this time, her opinion of him changed, he was still kind of weird, but in a silly, quirky, fun, life-of-the-party kind of way. There was an instant spark of connection between the two of them. And embedded in a strong, core group of friends, their friendship started to blosom.
Two and a half years later and George was ready to propose. With the help of the same cousins who initially introduced Dangelica and George, they came up with a plan: they created a “fake” event at the Cockrell Butterfly Center at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, complete with a logo, invitation, drink menu – it was very convincing. And they used this “event” to get Dangelica to dress up and go to the museum that evening without a single clue that George was going to propose.
In fact, the event was SO convincing, that even after George proposed (and Dangelica said, “Yes!”), she looked around and wondered outloud: “Why isn’t anyone else here for this “event”?” In other words: to say that they pulled off the best and biggest surprise would be an understatement.
Dangelica and George decided to come back to Pittsburgh to get married. Friends and family traveled in from all over the country as the air of the day seemed to be: “We wouldn’t miss this celebration for the world!”
Embracing the fact that it was the Saturday before Christmas, Dangelica and George planned a stunning winter wedding. They included so many small personal touches in their day, with every element of the day being thought through and intentional. Sadly, we didn’t get any snow, but we did soak up all the twinkle lights and holiday vibes around the beautiful city of Pittsburgh and it was the best day ever!
