Who would have ever thought that an injury would be the start of two people’s lives together?
Kim is a runner – she loves to run marathons & loves to train (and is just one of those crazy people who loves to run). But she had gotten injured and so she was unable to run. It was killing her – driving her absolutely bonkers. Trying to find anything to keep her brain preoccupied while she waited for clearance from her doctor to get back out & run again, she found a dating app on her phone. She wasn’t looking for a relationship – she was quite satisfied with her life at the moment, but it intrigued her. Bored out of her mind one day, she created a profile.
Within this particular dating app, there were rules: the guy had to initiate the connection, but it was up to the girl to accept. If she did not accept, there was nothing the guy could do but move on to try to connect with someone else. The power is 100% in the girl’s hands. Well, Dan stumbled across Kim’s newly created profile and he attempted to connect with her. There was just one problem: Kim ignored him.
As the time wound down & the invitation almost expired, Dan chose to extend the invitation time. There was just something about this girl & he really wanted to chat with her. At the last moment, Kim accepted his connection & the two began chatting.
It turns out: Dan was correct – there was something about Kim & it wasn’t long before he asked her out on a date & to meet in person for the first time. They agreed on a time & place and then, on the morning of their date: Kim canceled. She had gone out the evening before with some friends & the thought of going out again, with this guy she had never met, was just too much. Strike 2 for Dan.
Dan decided to give it one more shot (third time’s a charm, right?) They set up their date one more time & this time, it actually happened. They sat in the restaurant for hours & just talked and talked and talked and talked. And well, you could say that the rest is history.
A few weeks ago, we got together to celebrate Kim & Dan’s engagement (how Dan proposed is a whole other story for another day). They wanted their photos to center around our great city of Pittsburgh, so we decided to hit up the “major” spots: we tossed around a bunch of ideas, but eventually narrowed it down to Mt. Washington & Point State Park. In order to avoid the large crowds that those locations can attract, we got together early in the morning. It was a beautiful southwestern Pennsylvania Saturday morning & just looking at these images makes me so much more excited for their wedding next summer at Phipps Conservatory!
So, if you’d believe this: Dan & Kim are not models – they’ve never been in front of a camera before. They told me when we originally met to talk about their wedding photography & as we were starting their engagement photos that they were pretty nervous. I dare you to see that in their photos though! They were so natural & comfortable with one another & so in love that it made things look SO easy!
I love what a huge difference just a few seconds make! These photos were literally taken mere seconds apart! Welcome to Point State Park!
Just some casual dancing in Point State Park!
I have SO many favorites from Dan & Kim’s engagement session, but this image is definitely up there as a huge favorite!
