Courtney & Eddie’s offbeat fall wedding this past Saturday at Pheasant Hills Country Club in Owego, NY was one of the most memorable fall weddings I have ever been a part of. Hurricane Matthew was heading up the East Coast & everyone was on edge whether he would disrupt the outdoor ceremony & celebrations or not. I knew a little bit of rain wouldn’t bother Courtney or Eddie and sure enough, their instructions were: “Unless it is crazy down pouring, we’re getting married outside.” After misting & lightly raining on and off all morning, the rain held it’s breath for their intimate ceremony and everything was perfect.
It’s been a few years since Courtney took that job at a bar while in college to make some extra cash. After their adventurous first date, nothing could separate the two of them & after about 2 years, they talked about getting married. They looked at rings together & Courtney picked out the ring she loved the most, so she knew the proposal was imminent.
Not one to be able to keep a secret, one afternoon shortly thereafter, Eddie marched into the kitchen where Courtney had her sleeves rolled up and her hands submersed in dirty dish water. He leaned casually on the counter and she asked where he’d been, “At the store,” he tried to sound nonchalant. “Oh? For what?” she asked, and he proceeded to dance around the true answer. Another moment passed, and absolutely bursting, he let out, “Well, do you want it?” Still doing dishes, Courtney looked up at her bear of a man who’s eyes were dancing, “Do I want what?” To which he responded by pulling a small bag out from behind his back and sliding a little black box across the counter. With a huge grin on his face, he asked, “Do you want to marry me?”
After a moment of shock and complete surprise, Courtney responded, “Of course! Yes!” Hands were dried off, dishes were completely forgotten about, and a diamond was slipped onto her ring finger. A few moments of celebrating passed and Courtney had just one question: “Did you call & ask my Dad for his permission?” Stunned, Eddie admitted that he hadn’t, and Courtney said that they couldn’t do anything else until he called her Dad. Permission officially granted, they announced their engagement and the rest is history.
Courtney & Eddie – Thank y’all for being so amazing & welcoming me into your family with open arms! I felt so loved and enjoyed every moment of celebrating with you both, your friends & family! Enjoy your adventurous honeymoon touring Europe – I can’t wait to hear all about it!!
I LOVE the bridemaid’s yellow shoes!! How awesome are they?!
I love this image Derrick got of Courtney & her Dad right before they walked down the aisle!
Rick, the Best Man, also doubled as the Flower Girl & he took his job very very seriously!
Courtney’s Grandfather was able to attend the wedding, after doubts if he would be able to due to his health, and it was so sweet that he helped to walk her down the aisle. They have a truly precious relationship & I loved that she honored him in that way.
I love this wide shot that Derrick got of the ceremony! Look at those amazing fall colors!
Remember how I mentioned Hurricane Matthew? As we drove from our first location to the second, he showed up in full force & suddenly we were caught in a downpour!!
Did I mention it was downpouring? I was soaked, and I knew there was water droplets on my lens, but I literally did not have a dry piece of clothing to wipe it off, so I just went with it! I kind of love the effect – there’s no hiding the fact that it was raining!
If there is one photo to perfectly sum up who Courtney & Eddie are as a couple, it is this one. I love their silly, crazy personalities & how much fun they have together! And, you know me, I LOVE a good cake smash!!
We ended the night with glow sticks! Something I’ve never done before but was so much fun!!
Huge shout-out and thank you to the amazing team of vendors who helped make Courtney & Eddie’s wedding day absolutely perfect!
