Officially, they’ve been together for almost 2 years.
Unofficially though, Katie & Casey have known of each other for a long time. When you live in a small town, everyone seems to be at least slightly acquainted with everyone else. So, Katie & Casey’s families knew each other, and that put them on the relationship level of “say-hi-in-the-grocery-store”.
Small town living means you run into many of the same people over and over again. Katie & Casey’s paths would cross in restaurants, at local bars, and, yep, in the grocery store. It was during one of those completely random run-ins that they found themselves chatting. It was mid-December and the “event” the entire town seemed to be talking about was the New Years Eve Social. During their 30-second small-talk conversation, Katie asked Casey if he was planning on coming to the Social. He said no.
Christmas passed and New Years Eve rolled around. Suddenly realizing that his evening was going to be extremely lonely, Casey decided on a spur-of-the-moment to join his family & friends at that New Years Eve Social.
As he walked up to the door, who else happened to be walking in at the exact same time, but Katie. She laughed, “Hey there! I didn’t think you were coming.”
Since they walked in the door together, they found themselves going thru the food line together. And then sitting and eating together. And talking – all night long. In fact, they described it as, “We started talking as we walked in the door and just never stopped.”
Of course, you can probably connect-the-dots and figure out what happened next. Katie was at Matt & Tara’s wedding this spring and literally came running up to me during the reception: “You have to be my wedding photographer! I’m not engaged yet, but when I am, you’ll be the first person I call!”
True to her word, about 6 weeks later, when Katie & Casey officially got engaged, I was one of the first people she messaged (before they even had a wedding date picked out)! I mean, if that doesn’t put her at the top of my “favorites” list, I don’t know what does.
We got together this past fall for their engagement photos! We originally had plans to shoot on the property that they own & will be getting married on, but with the threat of rain, we changed our plans to include this incredible covered bridge! We didn’t end up needing the cover, but I was so excited to discover a new spot! I had no idea that this covered bridge even existed – and how awesome is it?!
