Let’s talk about how you go about planning a wedding for a few moments – and specifically at what point you should be hiring your photographer.
He’s finally popped the question, you’ve said yes, celebrated the tremendous occasion, and then you wake up the next morning, utterly overwhelmed at where to start with planning this event that you’ve dreamed of since you were a little girl.
Most people would assume your first steps of action should be to pick a date & book your venue, then follow that up with booking your key vendors like the photographer, DJ, and caterer.
I’m about to blow your mind though- ready? I’m going to say: the first thing you should do – before even picking a date or your venue, is pick out your wedding photographer. Wait, you say, you’re just saying that because that’s what you are & of course you want to be booked first.
Let me explain.
Think of it this way: you could book an amazing venue, buy a beautiful designer dress, and have stunning flowers, but if your photographer is only an amateur (or a family member with a fancy camera), those things will not be done the justice that they deserve. Along the same lines: a great photographer can take a simple venue, a classic dress, and modest flowers and make them look like a million bucks.
That being said- you should find a photographer you absolutely love – that you would do anything to book. You should love their work, their creativity, and their personality (after all, you’ll be with them for a huge portion of the most important day of your life!) Just imagine how devastating it would be, if you’ve already booked your date at a venue and then find out that your dream photographer is already booked. Crushing, right?
I am a wedding photographer. I carry an enormous responsibility on your wedding day: I am there to capture moments & memories and preserve them for generations to come. That’s my job & it’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly.
So, knowing the huge importance of your photographer on your wedding day, the way I would suggest you go about planning your day is to make finding that person a top priority.
