Highlight of the Week
How in the world is Christmas Day just 3 days away?!
This holiday season has been so different for our family – typically, I love to go Christmas shopping in December, I love to be out in all the hustle & bustle, and I wait until the very last minute to wrap gifts. But this year, because our baby boy was due to be born early in December, I wanted to be done with all of my Christmas prep by December 1st (and good thing I set that goal – he arrived on December 3rd)! However, since I have been “done” with Christmas (including mailing out our Christmas cards before it was even December – who am I?!), Christmas Day has seemed so far away. With none of the usual last-minute craze that typically comes with Christmas creeping up, the day has simply seemed way far off in the distance.
And suddenly, it’s here! It hardly feels real – but it’s so exciting! Our Christmas plans are super laid back & chill this year, and I can’t imagine a better way to spend the next few days.
Yes, This Happened
- Over the last 2 weeks, we have been super blessed by our friends & family who have brought us over dinners & gift cards to get dinners. Not having the pressure to cook every night has been absolutely wonderful! One night this week, our dinner included a tube of crescent rolls (who doesn’t love crescent rolls? we surely do! it’s just one of those items we rarely buy). I baked them & Derrick took them out of the oven. Of the 8 crescent rolls, he brought 3 out to the table (one for each of us) and left the remaining 5 in the kitchen on the cookie sheet. We ate our dinner, cleaned up quickly, and then I sat down to nurse Leander. Derrick needed to do some work on his YouTube channel and Braelynn was playing by herself. After nursing the little babe, I fell asleep on the couch (something about only sleeping in 90-minute increments at night has me pretty tired – go figure) only to be woken up by Braelynn saying: “Mommy, I ate all of the cinnamon rolls!” I opened my eyes to see Braelynn standing over me with a huge smile on her face – I asked her to clarify: “What cinnamon rolls?” “The cinnamon rolls we had for dinner!”
I got up to see what she was talking about – and sure enough, the little miss ate the remaining 5 crescent rolls! - Speaking of sleeping – you hear all sorts of things when you’re sitting up in the middle of the night nursing a baby. One night, I heard a car to squealing around the corner outside our house. And on Thursday night this week, I heard a huge bang. It literally made me jump & you know it was loud because it also woke up Derrick. We both looked at each other & said: “What was that?!” Derrick got up to investigate, and after walking all over our house, he came back to bed shrugging, saying, “It must have been something outside.”
I came downstairs the next morning & walking past our laundry room, I noticed there was white powder on the floor. Confused (and beginning to wonder if the sleep deprivation was really messing with my brain), I walked into our laundry room to find the shelf we store all of our laundry detergent, extra soap, and odds & ends on had fallen down & everything had come crashing (and breaking) to the floor. Thankfully, the only thing that really broke open was my Tide powder. I just now find myself in need of a new shelf.
Feeling Blessed
If you’re interested, we have taken this same traditional Christmas photo every year since we have been in this house & since Braelynn (and now Leander!) were born. If you’d like to see just how much Braelynn has grown, you’ll want to step back in time & see all of them! 2015 | 2016 | 2017
