Abby's Saturday Black Lab Formal Portrait in Irwin, PA

Highlight of the Week

My blog is back! (well, duh)
If you simply read my blog for the Abby’s Saturday updates (yes, I see you), welcome back! Have you missed reading about our family? I must admit, taking a break from blogging was strange, but not taking a weekly Abby’s Saturday photo was the pinnacle of weird! To put it in perspective, this is “Abby’s Saturday #249” and I’ve taken those photos weekly (with the exception of one other break when Braelynn was born). I think Abby missed her weekly time in the spotlight (err, let’s be honest, her weekly heaping of treats for doing what I want her to do!) So, it’s good to be back!

Taking a blog break was so good though. It allowed me to give my brain a break from constantly thinking about blog content, gave me a break in my evenings to focus on my little family, and gave me (us) the freedom to work with Leander & get him on a good sleep schedule! I’ll be writing all about that experience soon! Taking a break also seemed the perfect opportunity to revamp my blog! For, well, forever, my blog has been 100% centered around weddings & my photography, with a little bit of our family’s lives thrown in. Recently though, with Derrick’s roller coaster adventures & our kiddos getting bigger, I really wanted to expand the content of my blog to be a bit more encompassing of our lives. So, I’ll still be writing about my couples & their amazing wedding days, but we’ll also be writing about our roller coaster adventures (we have a lot of fun plans this summer to visit a lot of parks!) as well as our lives as a family of 4! So, if notice the design of my blog is a little different – that’s why! It was the perfect time for a facelift!

Yes, This Happened

  • We kicked off the week by spending Memorial Day at the Lake! I photographed my first wedding of the season last Saturday, but then Derrick, Leander, & I drove back down to the Lake House Sunday morning for the rest of the holiday weekend (Braelynn was already there with my family). It was delightful.
  • Speaking of my first wedding of the year – that meant that Leander & I spent our first full day apart from one another since he was born! If you had asked me 3 weeks ago where my anxiety level was at in regards to leaving him with Derrick all day long, I would have said “moderately high”. We’ve practiced with a bottle & he’s always been pretty good about taking it (completely opposite his big sister who never took a bottle!) but Leander has always needed Mommy to sleep – for naps & bedtime. And even though he’s always been a fairly pleasant baby, if he doesn’t sleep, he turns into a little bear! So, we were a little worried. Like I mentioned above though, we worked thru a sleep training program 2 weeks before the wedding & it fixed everything. I promise to write more about that experience later, but Leander did fantastic with Daddy all day long last Saturday!! He napped for him, he drank bottles, and he went to bed – like a CHAMP! (And Derrick literally felt like a hero.)
  • Braelynn went on a special “date” with her Auntie Amy this week! My sister loves to take Braelynn to her favorite coffee shop: The White Rabbit in Greensburg, PA every once in a while. They get something special to drink (hot chocolate for Braelynn), the barista puts a special animal in her drink, and Amy & Braelynn color pictures & hang out. It’s so sweet & I love that they have such a special friendship. It’s literally the sweetest thing ever to see my younger siblings loving on & having a special relationship with my kids.
  • We have season passes at Kennywood Park again and ever since we went there a month ago for season pass holder preview day, Braelynn has been chomping at the bit to go back! We planned to go on Tuesday, but afternoon thunderstorms kept us home. We just kept planning on going the next day all week long, but all week long, we had storms in the afternoon. Braelynn was so sad – she literally sobbed into the couch on Thursday when it began raining & she realized that we couldn’t go again. Poor girl!

Feeling Blessed

It’s okay though, because we’re now officially on vacation! Remember how I said we had plans to hit up a bunch of new amusement parks this summer? Well, we’re currently on our way to 4 new parks! We’re all so excited – Derrick will ride his 200th roller coaster today!! If you’re reading this as I post this today & you have Instagram, you’ll want to follow along with our InstaStories – that’s where we’ll be posting all about our time away (lots of roller coaster photos, photos of Braelynn riding kiddie rides, and Leander looking cute & chubby). The link to my Instagram is here & Derrick’s is here!
