Abby’s Saturday // Two Hundred And Forty-Four

Black Lab Catching Treats Mid-Air

Highlight of the Week

I know I’ve said this before, but age 3 months and on is seriously the most fun with a baby! They grow & change so quickly from this point on! You can literally see the wheels turning in their little brains as they begin to figure out & learn new things – so exciting!
Last night, Derrick had Leander sitting on the couch. He had him all propped up with pillows and Derrick was sitting on the floor so that they were looking straight into each other’s eyes. We have no idea what sparked it, but all of a sudden, Leander started giggling! He was laughing at Derrick! Omigoodness, it was the absolute sweetest sound in the world. He’s let out little giggles in the past (usually at his sister), but last night it was a whole string of giggles all put together! I sat & listened to him for a few moments & then tried to get it on video, but by the time I grabbed my phone and came back, the moment had passed.
I feel like this week, Leander has really started to recognize (or not recognize) people – specifically Derrick when he walks in the door from work. He gets so happy & smiley when Daddy comes home – it’s adorable!!

Yes, This Happened

  • Speaking of “not recognizing” people though, I took Leander over for a quick visit to my Grandparents last weekend & when they started to talk to him, he instantly started pouting & crying! He came back around to his usual smiley self after a few minutes, but he then did the same thing to his Auntie Emma when we saw her on Thursday! And we see her on a weekly basis! Moral of the story: if he sees you & doesn’t seem to recognize you, it’s nothing personal! Promise.
  • Have you seen Derrick’s YouTube Channel recently? He recently posted a video talking about his obsession with Roller Coaster Tycoon as a little kid & he tells some pretty funny stories about just how crazy addicted he was to the game! Here’s the link to take you straight there – I Was Addicted to Roller Coaster Tycoon (and while you’re there, why not subscribe to his channel?? Yep, shameless plug!)
  • Braelynn told me this week that she was a princess. I agreed with her & then asked what Leander was. She thought about it for a moment, and then responded, “He’s a super hero!”
  • I’ve spent all week prepping for the Just Between Friends Consignment Sale in Monroeville, PA. My Mom & I have attended the sale (both spring & fall) every single time it rolls around since Braelynn was born – it’s one of our favorite things! It’s SO much fun (and I think this time around, we’re going to bring Ellen along too)! It’s a giant consignment sale that is centered around kids stuff – toys, equipment, furniture, outdoor stuff, clothes, etc. It’s held at the Monroeville Convention Center (so yes, it’s massive). I won’t lie: most of the clothes my kids wear & the toys they play with come from that sale. So, after attending the first time, my Mom & I have both taken stuff to sell every single time. Not only does that mean we get a check at the end of the sale (usually balancing out what we buy), but it also means that we beat the crazy crowds & get to shop the sale the day before it opens to the public (which is the best perk of them all!) It is a ton of work though to prep stuff to take & sell – everything they take is rigorously inspected, so anything I take to sell has to be spotless & clean (plus packaged together or hung on hangers and tagged). I don’t mind doing it, because the reward (the money that I make & the early shopping) are definitely worth it! It’s just, I have less time than ever to prep my stuff this time around! So, I’ve been working in 30-minute chunks while Leander naps – needless to say, my living room looks like a clothing store exploded in it – there are clothes & shoes & hangers everywhere. *Nervous laugh*. Thankfully, the sale is just 10 days away & then it’ll all be gone! On my list of things I’m shopping for this season: bathing suits for the kiddos, summer clothes for Leander (shopping for size 12-18 months!), sandals for Braelynn, outdoor toys, and a backpack diaper bag for me!
  • Just in case you’re curious about this week’s Abby Saturday photo – have you ever seen the studio photos of the dogs catching treats that someone is throwing to them? The photo is snapped literally the millisecond before the dog catches the treat & they are absolutely hilarious! This was my attempt at doing something like that! Turns out, my dog isn’t super coordinated at actually catching treats (or even trying – she’s lazy enough to let them fall & then eat them off the floor) and my assistant (Braelynn) had a little bit of trouble tossing the treats so that Abby could actually catch them to begin with (HAHA). It was a fun experiment, maybe I’ll try again when Derrick is around to be a better “assistent”.

Feeling Blessed

This week marked the first official day of Spring! YES. Now, if only the weather would get the memo & begin cooperating with more “spring-like” weather – that’d be great (it snowed yesterday, not enough to accumulate, but snow people – I’m so over it!) It is so exciting to know that Spring is right around the corner though – I’m so looking forward to warmer days, flowers, leaves on the trees, my grass to grow again, and trips to Deep Creek!! YES! It’s almost time to open up the Lake House & I am simply bursting with excitement! Just a few more weekends to go – I literally cannot wait.
