Highlight of the Week
Braelynn, Leander, and I have been at my family’s lake house on Deep Creek Lake all week long! We stayed with my Mom & Ruby and even though the weather wasn’t “the best” (in fact, it was pretty icky) we still had a wonderful, relaxing time! Looking at the forecast for the week, we knew it was going to rain, and then we heard the prediction that our area would be getting 5″ of rain over the course of Monday – Thursday. I don’t think we got 5″ of rain, but we sure got a lot! And of course, with the rain comes cooler temperatures – so needless to say, it wasn’t the “usual” June week at the Lake spent swimming, boating, and enjoying the sunshine! It’s okay – you know what they say: “A crummy week at the Lake is better than a good week at home.”
Yes, This Happened
- Braelynn is so much like her Daddy. She struggles to sit still, she has a hard time slowing down, and she loves to run around without shoes on. Which is all fine & good (I mean, they say running around in the grass without shoes on is good for you, right?) that is, until she slices her toe open while running around barefoot. The kicker (ba-dum-ch) is that she didn’t even realize that she did it – she was so busy running around! Poor girl, it was quite the nasty little cut. And since she hates shoes, it was like torture to have to wear shoes all week to protect her toe while it healed.
- Leander is now the proud new owner of a top tooth! Ruby is actually the one who discovered it on Monday! His second top tooth looks ready to pop thru any day now, but until it does, we just keep laughing at how silly he looks with only one top tooth poking thru!
- Speaking of Leander, he’s also made some really big strides toward crawling this week!! He can now get up on his knees & he rocks back & forth! It’s amazing to me that a baby just “knows” how to do these things – it’s incredible! He is so close to figuring it all out – it won’t be long now!
- At one point this week, Braelynn was talking & claimed Leander as “her baby”. I look at her & said, “Wait, what? Who’s baby is he?” And she got that sheepish/mischievous grin she’s so silly with & said, “He’s mine.” I laughed & said, “Oh no, he’s my baby!” She giggled & said, “Well, I’m his big sister.”
- Almost every night this week, after I put the kiddos to bed, Ruby & I played a few rounds of a card game called Sequence. It was “our thing” to do a few weeks ago when we spent extra time at the Lake, so we continued the tradition this week. Last I checked, we were tied for the number of games we’d each won – I guess we’ll have to play tonight & declare an official winner.
- On Tuesday night, as we sat down to play our game, I heard Leander wake up & cry out on the monitor. I didn’t think anything of it – he is kind of a “loud” sleeper, meaning whenever he shifts or moves, he tends to whine a little bit along with it. We continued playing our game for another minute, when I heard him cry again. Another minute passed, and he cried a bit more. Since we’re at the lake house, we’re all sleeping in the same room, and the last thing I wanted was for him to wake up Braelynn, so I snuck into the room to see what he was doing – I instantly knew that something was wrong. I grabbed my phone & turned on the flashlight & my poor little dude had flooded the pack-and-play with the contents of his stomach. He was covered from head to toe in throw-up. I instantly grabbed him up & undressed him to put him in the bath. My Mom & Ruby jumped in to help & pulled the pack-and-play out of the room to clean it up. While he was sitting in the bath, my poor sweet baby threw up again. And then as I was pulling him out of the bath, again. I wrapped him up in a big towel, and sat down to snuggle him on the couch, and he threw up again. I eventually lost count of how many times he threw up over the next 2 hours – it was literally heartbreaking. Before you panic though – he didn’t have a fever & was calm & restful between bouts of being sick. Time eventually stretched out & he’d go longer and longer between being sick & eventually, he fell asleep & it all stopped. Needless to say, it was a long night – we slept in the living room so I could keep a close eye on him, but he never got sick again. He woke up the next morning and was 100% back to his normal happy self. The best we can figure is that his tummy did not like what I fed him that night for dinner: a combination of applesauce & rice cereal – two things he’d had before (separately, but that was the first night I combined them together). So, needless to say, we’ve been taking it easy with the baby food the rest of this week, but thankfully, we haven’t had any more throwing up.
Feeling Blessed
I am truly feeling especially blessed this week as I have been able to continue to run my business while away from home. I had a portrait session on Monday night with two sweet vacationing families and tonight I have another with another vacationing family. I also scheduled myself a wedding meeting as well as booked a small wedding for later this year. Working remotely is always the ultimate dream of a small business owner, but it rarely happens. So, it felt really good to be “away” but still present in my business & still working on moving it forward!
