- 12 years ago today, is the day Derrick & I officially met. Tomorrow is Paul & Naomi’s 12th wedding anniversary – so today marks the anniversary of their rehearsal. Derrick & I were introduced to one another in Paul & Naomi’s little apartment kitchen – he had just arrived & was trying on his tux for the next day – I was buzzing in & out, helping pull everything together for my best friend’s wedding the following day. We didn’t really chat at all the day before their wedding – things were way too busy! But, nonetheless, today is the anniversary of the day Derrick & I officially met. (If you’d like to read the story of that day, you can read that chapter of our love story here!)
- After being at the Lake for the very first time last weekend, I officially caught “Lake-fever”. We came home on Monday evening, and I pretty much instantly realized that I wanted to turn around & go right back. So, after tying up a few things here at home, we packed up the car & drove back down – intending to spend another long weekend at the Lake. There was just one problem: Braelynn. Poor Braelynn started complaining that she didn’t feel good just a few hours after we arrived – after laying on the couch for a little bit, she perked up & it seemed to pass. We went to bed that night, woke up the next morning, and she said she was feeling fine! Thinking we were in the clear, we moved along with our day – until a few hours went by & she started deteriorating again. We knew something was wrong when she asked to go back to bed – Braelynn never wants to sleep – so we definitely knew something was wrong. After letting her rest for a little bit & no difference being made, we made the decision to pack everything up & come home. That ride home was rough. About 30 minutes into our 2 hour drive home, she threw up. I pulled over in an empty parking lot, cleaned her up, changed her clothes, and then we kept on going. About 30 minutes later, she threw up again. It was so hard. She was such a brave girl, but she was crying, and I was driving so I couldn’t really comfort her, it was pouring down rain, I still had another hour to drive until we were home – ROUGH. Thankfully, after that, both she & Leander fell asleep & slept just about the entire rest of the way home. Braelynn laid on the couch the rest of the day, but seemed to steadily improve. She slept all night, and waking up this morning – she was 100% back to her normal, bouncy, talkative, snacking self. I have no idea what happened – a weird stomach bug I guess? It was just really strange (and heart-breaking). I tell you, watching your kids be sick is literally one of the worst parts of being a parent.
- Today marks ONE WEEK until my sister Amy’s wedding day!! I’m SO excited! There is a lot to do this coming week – but I’m hugely excited & absolutely cannot wait!
- Leander got his first “big boy” haircut this week! I honestly didn’t mind his little mullet he had going on, but I wanted him to look “fresh” for the wedding next week. I might have been tempted to cut his hair myself (let’s be honest: I was totally tempted to cut his hair myself!) – but, let me repeat: there is a wedding next week! And he is the ring bearer – so he has a pretty big job. He did AMAZING & now he really looks like a little BOY. We left his hair long on top – just shortened up the back & oh boy is he the most handsome little dude ever. I’m absolutely obsessed. It’s my first “real” time experiencing one of my kiddos getting their hair cut (Braelynn has only ever had minor hair “trims” her entire life – she still resolutely wants “Rapunzel” hair” – so we continue to let her hair grow).
- I went shopping for the first time this week in over 3 months. And by “shopping”, I mean, I made a trip to my favorite consignment store, went to Ross & Target! It felt so amazingly wonderful to be out & about again (even though the stupid wearing-a-mask thing is annoying & non-normal). I mainly was in search of a dress to wear to my sister’s wedding (since her wedding has been “downgraded” to simply a backyard event – I got “cut” from the bridesmaids “team” – so I needed a new dress). Turns out – it’s really hard to buy clothes without trying them on! Thankfully, all of the stores have good return policies, so I bought a bunch of different dresses & fingers crossed – I did find one that I like! I did also order a few from Amazon (with free returns – YAY) which should arrive tomorrow, so after that round – hopefully I’ll have narrowed it down to what I’m going to wear! Nothing like waiting until the “last minute”, eh?
