- Well, it’s the last (official) weekend of summer. How depressing.
I just can’t believe that summer is over already. I feel like, we just got to summer & it’s already over?
Honestly though: we packed more into this summer than we ever have & I have zero regrets.
Part of me is looking forward to a slower season (although, my business is entering it’s busiest of seasons, so “slower” just means less traveling to ride roller coasters – which, let’s be honest, is the most fun of all). - It’s been a slow week in the Abbey house – mostly the kids just spent the beginning of the week recovering from being sick the week before. Boring, I know.
But, in reality it’s looked like: a full week back to school for Braelynn (after being on vacation & then sick the weeks before), tons of time spent running around outside – balanced with a fair amount of time inside, resting & watching Mickey Mouse. (Dare I say: we watched so much Bluey when the kids were sick last week that we needed a change – and suddenly Braelynn & Leander are obsessed with Mickey Mouse. No complaints here!) - Speaking of Braelynn & school – this week has been different. It’s hard to really explain how – but I’ll try. We did kindergarten last year & are doing first grade this year & up to this point, I’ve been able to see her learn & grow, but it’s been very slow & steady. Lots of repetition, struggling to make certain things stick, she was learning, but it was just really slow. This week – all that changed. It was like someone crawled up into her brain & pulled the string to turn the lightbulb on. All of a sudden, she got it. And it wasn’t just a memory thing – her whole body got it. Her eyes lit up, she got the biggest smile on her face, and she broke out into a little dance. What exactly did she get? We weren’t really learning anything new – we’re still in “review land”, going over what we learned last year, but it was like, all of a sudden, the switch was flipped & her comprehension came alive. Like I said, it’s hard to explain, but suddenly her whole attitude toward school & learning changed (not that she ever had a bad attitude, but suddenly she’s super excited to learn). It’s been amazing and so so exciting.
- I’m slowly catching up on our family vlogs – this week I finished the vlog covering our time at Dorney Park, Sesame Place, and Playland’s Castaway Cove (wow, that trip seems like it was forever ago).
