- I straightened my hair & “put on eyelashes” yesterday (aka put on makeup) and Braelynn told me I looked: “Extremely beautiful.” Take that as you will.
- So, Braelynn & Leander have been sick most of this week. Leander came down with, what we assumed to be, a stomach bug on Wednesday & then it hit Braelynn on Thursday. Both kids had fevers & upset stomachs for about 24-ish hours, followed by another 24-ish hours of just laying around, being sluggish, not eating much, and resting.
We thought we had reached the “other side” when both kiddos woke up this morning & felt good. They wanted to eat & play & were acting fairly normal – until Braelynn started complaining that her throat was a bit sore. It wasn’t enough to stop her from eating or drinking though, so we kind of wrote it off as just a side-effect of whatever they were sick with.
And then I realized that Leander had a few small red bumps near his mouth – and then I checked out his hands & he has some blisters on his hands.
Anyways: I don’t think the kids just had a “stomach bug”, I’m pretty sure they have hand/foot/mouth disease. Boo. The good news is: we’ve come thru the fever/flu-like symptoms part of it & graduated to the blisters part – which means, there is a light at the end of the tunnel – it’s just further out than we were expecting. (I guess we aren’t going to Kennywood this weekend after all – BOO.) - So, that’s pretty much been it for this week. The end.
- Let’s talk about last weekend though – we went & visited Derrick’s family & I did my day of mini-sessions that I do for my favorite clients every fall up in the Twin Tiers of New York & Pennsylvania. (If you’re confused: it’s the area Derrick & I lived for a few years after we were first married and where I began to build my photography business, so I still have some very loyal clients up there that I do portraits for every fall). We had the most perfect day & I photographed 10 families (wowsers). Almost every single family that I saw last Saturday – our relationship originates from the day I photographed their wedding. So, it’s insanely cool to re-connect with them year after year, see how their families are growing, and catch up – it’s a ton of work & a long day, but I absolutely love it (it seriously feels like catching up with a bunch of old friends). I’m (obviously) still editing the photos from that day (I took more photos last Saturday, in total, than I take on a full wedding day!!) but they’re some of my favorites ever & I walked away just feeling so so blessed to have this job & privilege of documenting people’s lives & legacies in such a beautiful, tangible way.
- So, is this for real a real product? If so, I feel like we need this, pronto: CLICK HERE.
- On Tuesday morning (after our long weekend away & before the kids came down with their sickness), Brealynn woke up at her usual 6:15am. She groggily made her way downstairs, plopped herself on the couch, and just sat there (which is extremely out of character for her – usually when she wakes up: she’s awake). She went to bed extremely late & woke up super early every morning while we were away over the 3-day weekend, so I knew she was still super tired. I suggested she just lay down on the couch & go back to sleep & she woozily responded, “That would be taking a nap, and I hate naps.”
- Braelynn just walked into my office & told me: “You look as pretty as you did the other day.” (For reference, my hair is still straight, but I have no makeup on today.)
