- Happy Thanksgiving weekend!! Hope your Thanksgiving holiday has been splendid – ours has been! We’ve spent the weekend with Derrick’s family, eating so much delicious food, watching Christmas movies (we watched one called “8-Bit Christmas” – it was actually super good!), playing games, and just soaking up the time together.
The best part of Thanksgiving dinner was right after everyone filled their plates & started taking their first bites of delicious food, Braelynn bursts out: “I have to poop,” and dashed away from the table.
Then we went swimming yesterday & wow did the kids love that! I didn’t even recognize Leander – as soon as he got into the water he turned into this crazy little fish!! He was paddling all over, the biggest smile on his face, climbing out of the pool & jumping in – it was hilarious! All of a sudden he was a little boy instead of my baby & I don’t even know how it happened! (His birthday is next week and I am not prepared for my sweet baby to turn three.) - In other news: how about this photo?!
Same wall, same banner, same doggie, same kiddos –

(Can we just talk about how the quality of my images & my light get better & better every year? Talk about growth! I’m very impressed with myself, if you can’t tell.) - Since it’s been Thanksgiving week, we took the week off of school! In some ways, it’s been wonderful, but on the other hand, I think we’ve kind of missed it (our routine & dedicated time together). And, as much as Braelynn will say she doesn’t want to start back to school again on Monday, she actually kind of does.
- On Monday, we all went & got our hair cut. Leander’s hair was literally in his eyes, so it was past due. There’s just one problem: he hates having his hair cut. He didn’t do as bad last time, so I was hopeful that this time wouldn’t be so bad either – NOPE. He was not interested in sitting by himself at all, so I had to hold him while our amazing hair-dresser cut his hair. It was literally like holding a rabid raccoon. I have no idea how she cut his hair – but she did!! I ended up covered in hair, but we got it done!
- On Tuesday, we went out with my Mom to do some Christmas shopping (it was a bit unsuccessful, but that’s not the point). On our way from the 2nd store to the last store, Leander fell asleep & he was still sleeping when we pulled in & parked. So, I pulled him out of his carseat & he woke up, but was still drowsy & snuggling into me – so we did something that we never do – we brought Leander’s precious blankie into the store. I never bring his blankie into stores with us – but he likes to have it in the car. But, I broke my rule since he was so sleepy & we brought it in.
Well, by the time we made it from the car into the store – he was 100% awake & as soon as we walked in, he was ready to go look at all the toys they had on display right inside the door. I grabbed a shopping cart & we walked deeper & deeper into the store – eventually ending up toward the back – and that’s when he asked for his blankie, and I looked down & realized that we did not have it. Talk about panic. We began to retrace our steps (since he hadn’t been in the shopping cart the entire time, all I could think was that he must have set it down when he was looking at a toy.) We walked all the way back to the front of the store & did not find it.
By this time I’m thinking: what would happen if we actually lost his blankie? And: did we even bring it into the store?
I was about ready to go back out to the car to look (and then my next course of action was going up to the cashiers to ask if anyone had turned it in) when my Mom walked by and there in her shopping cart was Leander’s blankie. - It’s no secret that I love my exercise bike & cycling – I typically ride in the mornings when Braelynn is up, but before Leander wakes up. Usually, she hangs out downstairs & watches TV while I ride, but on Wednesday, she “slept in” and didn’t wake up until I was already in the middle of my class. (I say “slept in”, because she slept about 20 minutes past when she normally wakes up.) So, instead of going downstairs, she came upstairs to hang out until I was done. I typically take a 20 minute cycling class, then a 5 minute cool down, and then a 5 minute post-ride stretch. Well, as I was stretching, Braelynn spoke up & said, “Mom? Are you exercising still?” I said, “Yes.” She replied, “Well, that doesn’t look like exercising. I think she (the instructor) is just making this stuff up.”
- Have you all been Black Friday shopping? I have been online shopping all week & I am actually almost completely done Christmas shopping!! I still have a few things to pick up, but thanks to some good Black Friday deals, I have been able to get a good chunk of gifts!
