- Umm, so something happened today that hasn’t happened before – I forgot that today was Saturday. SERIOUSLY. How does one do that? Well, I photographed a wedding yesterday, which meant that waking up this morning felt like Sunday. Now do you understand why my brain is completely confused?
And so, I bring you Abby’s Saturday: late night edition. - So yes! I photographed a beautiful wedding yesterday – I second shot for my sweet friend Jessica Fike (yep – the same photographer friend I second shot for last weekend!) And what’s super funny – we were back at the same venue as last weekend! So, that’s probably just another reason why my bran is extra-mushy & I’m all off today. It was an absolute beautiful day though – we had a ton of fun together! It just makes me so much more excited for all the weddings I have coming up!!
- Are you on Instagram? If so, have you heard of their new(ish) feature called “Reels”? It’s just Instagram’s version of TikTok videos. Anyways, I decided that I was going to give making one a try. I mean, they are 15-second long videos – how hard could that be?
HARD.
Let’s just say, I gave up. It turns out, it’s a TON of work. Creating the video wasn’t hard, but chopping it up, adding text, adding music, adding effects – I ended up working on it for about 30 minutes before I gave up. It’s a 15-freakin-second-long video! Obviously – there is a bit of a learning curve to it & now that I actually have pieces of it figured out, I could probably do it in half the time – but 15 minutes is way too long for a 15 second video. In other words: don’t expect to see any Reels from me. - As we were going to bed on Monday night, Derrick said not to prep anything for dinner the following night. I asked why, and he said that we were going to have a “date night”, at home, with the kids.
Of course, we both laughed at that! So, in other words: we were just going to be having our normal family dinner – Derrick was just stopping at the store to pick up steaks. Not to be outdone, (and attempting to do our best to make things “fancy”) Braelynn & I made brownies, bought ice cream, & set the table with candles. We don’t usually have ice cream in our house, so it felt like a super special treat.
Then, Derrick came home, with the steak, special drinks for everyone, and – you guessed it: ice cream. In other words: we now have twice the amount of ice cream in our freezer. - We ate our ice cream while watching the presidential debate Tuesday night – ay yi yi – what a dumpster fire. That’s all I’ll say about that.
- Braelynn has finally figured out how to propel herself, by herself, on a swing! We’ve been trying to teach her all summer long on our swingset at home & whether it was from her just not getting it, or her being lazy & just wanting us to push her – she never seemed to “get it”. Until this week – she got it! And she’s so proud of herself!
- Leander has been babbling up a storm for months now. He will literally look you straight in the eye & let out a whole long “paragraph” of utter nonsense. You could tell – he knows he wants to talk just like everyone else, but he just couldn’t make the words come out. Derrick & I laughed that one day, he’d probably just start talking in full sentences. Well, that day hasn’t quite arrived – but more & more of the things he’s saying make sense. He loves to repeat words after us, and he’ll say these “phrases” that kind-of-sort-of sound like sentences – and the most hilarious part about it is: they are all within a proper context! So, look out Braelynn – your world is about to get rocked. (If you don’t know Braelynn, just know that she will talk your ear off.)
- Since I was shooting that wedding yesterday with Jess, we came down to the Lake early this week – we’ve been here since Wednesday. On Thursday, we went adventuring somewhere that we’ve never been before – a new hiking adventure. We hiked along the Potomac River on the Lostland Hiking Trail. It was really pretty & a lot of fun (even though I ended up carrying Leander most of the way & it was like carrying a sack of potatoes around all over).
- I took this photo of Abby out in the woods behind our Lakehouse & I really wanted Braelynn & Leander to be in the photo too! Braelynn was cooperative, but Leander was not interested whatsoever. He simply glued himself to my leg & cried if I tried to peel him off. He’s been super clingy recently & as much as I love it, it definitely makes things tough! So, no kids in the photo this week – maybe next week (we’ll see).
