- Braelynn officially has a new bed! It’s been 3 years since we upgraded Braelynn from her crib to her toddler bed & it was HIGH TIME for her to be upgraded to a twin bed! (click here to see the Abby’s Saturday post I did when we moved her into her toddler bed!)
The whole bed-thing turned into a much larger project then I had originally anticipated. I believe my original words to Derrick were: “I already have the headboard & footboard, we just need to get a mattress!” Fast forward to me digging thru my parent’s basement for about an hour to find my old headboard/footboard (sidetone: my Grandparents bought me this bed for my 16th birthday! I specifically picked it because it transforms into a 4-poster bed & I still love it – thankfully, after I moved out, my parents kept it – so now, Braelynn can use it!) I finally found the headboard/footboard, but I never did find the frame. I shrugged it off – I knew we had an old metal frame in our attic that I figured would work – we just needed a mattress & boxspring now. My Dad said that he had a twin mattress in storage – so now I just needed a boxspring! Perfect! That just meant I needed to borrow my parent’s car to go pick up a boxspring (we measured: even with folding down all of our seats & pushing the driver’s seat way forward, our car was still just a few inches short). So, last week, my Mom & I ran out to pick up a boxspring (the very last the store had in stock – WHEW) – we got home, attempted to put everything together AND – the frame I had dug out of our attic didn’t work. It was bent or something, but the pieces simply would not line up. So, now, I needed to go find another frame. I ran to Walmart & snatched up the very last one they had (and it wasn’t even in the correct spot – I found it randomly stuffed on a shelf two aisles down from where it should have been). Home again, and this time – we didn’t have the proper screws to attach the headboard & footboard to the frame. (Can you see me “face-palming” over here?) So, we still don’t have the screws – the headboard is just propped up against the wall & the frame/mattresses pushed up against it (and that’s why there is no footboard) – BUT Braelynn has her new bed!! - We have discovered recently that Leander loves his condiments. He will literally eat just about anything with ketchup or ranch dressing. He also equally loves mayonnaise & sour cream – it’s kind of hilarious.
- Last Saturday, I was back at the beautiful Gathering Place for a fabulous wedding! Ellen came along to help me out & it was SO wonderful to shoot a wedding with my sister again! (If you missed it, you can see all the highlights of Ashley & Brady’s day here!)
- Week #2 of school is done & we finally seem to be getting back into that school “groove”. Week #1 was a little rough – transitioning from summer-mode to school-mode was a little rocky at first, but this week has gone much better. I mean, okay, let’s be honest: Braelynn is just in kindergarten, so it’s not like we’re doing hours worth of schoolwork. In other words, when I say things like “rocky” or “tough” – it’s really not all that bad. It’s more of a transition for me to be more structured about setting aside time for school & re-building routines that we’ve been lax about over the summer. The other token that makes this game a little more interesting this year is Leander. Last year, for most of the school year, he was still taking 2 naps – so we had a lot more freedom in when we did school. This year though, he’s a solid once-a-day napper, so we have to be more disciplined to get stuff done while he’s sleeping (we tried doing school while he was awake & either he was climbing up onto the dining room table or stealing markers & drawing on the couch). We’ve started figuring out some good routines this week though, so I feel like we’re headed in the right direction!
- Well, we’re off on another roller coaster riding adventure this weekend! Stay tuned for lots of cool photos & vlogs from our trip!
