Abby’s Saturday // Three Hundred And Forty-One

Abbys Saturday Welcome Home Daddy Sign in Irwin PA
  • Unfortunately, it hasn’t quite been the happiest of weeks in the Abbey house. Sadly, Derrick’s Grandfather passed away at the beginning of this week. We find comfort in the fact that we know he’s in heaven with Jesus, but it’s sad knowing we’ll never see him on this earth again.
Derrick flew out to New Mexico on Thursday morning so he could be with his Grandma & family for the funeral – so for the second half of the week, it was just me & the kiddos holding down the fort. I purposefully filled our days with activities – we spent time with my sister, spent time at my parent’s house (I spent a good chunk of time talking with my Mom about ideas for Braelynn & school next year – she’ll be in first grade!!) & had dinner there, visited my Meme & Grandpa, visited & had dinner with my Grandma – we cleaned the house, put away any lingering winter decor & brought out all of our spring stuff (if that doesn’t cheer one up, I don’t know what will!) – we kept busy.
While we were at my Grandma’s last night – she commented: “They sure keep you busy & on your toes, don’t they?” and I laughed (as Leander proceeded to shove his little cars into her VCR).
Derrick was originally planning on staying in New Mexico until Monday, but ended up changing his flight so that he came home today! We drove out & picked him up from the airport this afternoon & I have never seen the kids happier – they have missed their Daddy so much & we are so happy to have him back! (Leander’s face in this photo says it all!)
  • Saturday are “pancake day” in the Abbey house – and without Daddy here to make the pancakes – Mama had to be the chef this morning. As we were eating, Braelynn looked over at me & said, “Mom – Daddy makes the BEST pancakes in the whole world. Yours are okay, but they aren’t as good as Daddy’s.”
  • One morning this week – Leander pooped and it smelled SO bad that I blamed the dog for pooping on the floor & set Braelynn to help me find it. It was just SO BAD!
  • I FINALLY pulled a plug that Derrick has been telling me to pull for about 2 years – guys, I bought myself a NEW COMPUTER *cue all the screaming* My current computer (my main man is a 27″ iMac) has been a BEAST & has served me so well over the last 8 years – EIGHT YEARS! I’ve had this thing longer than my children have been alive. I bought it when we were still living in Northern PA & it has carried me thru working that part-time photography hustle (while I worked full-time at the bank) and was with me as I transitioned into being a full time wedding photographer. It has processed literally millions of images, written hundreds of blog posts, & thousands of emails.
Over the last 2 years though, it’s been getting slower, and slower, and slower. I’ve been nursing it along, bandaging up it’s wounds, feeding it a specialized diet, I was just not ready to buy a new computer.
Until this past week when, on 3 separate occasions, I came to my computer to find that it had turned itself off “due to a problem”. I did a bunch of research, and I still can’t quite figure out what that “problem” is – but that was the last straw. I went ahead and pulled the plug & ordered a fancy new, super upgraded iMac. I’m SO excited to get it (even though I won’t receive it for about another week) & am so pumped to have a brand new, shiny tool in my arsenal – which will hopefully carry me thru another 8 years (yikes, I’ll be SUPER old then!)
  • I’ve slowly been working on the design of our 2020 family yearbook album, but I haven’t had as much time to work on it as I wanted to this week. So, I’m setting a goal & putting it here so y’all keep me accountable – I want to have the first draft of my family yearbook DONE by next Saturday! I have the design of January, February, and March done – so that means I have the 9 remaining months to design over the next 1 week. I really want to buckle down & get it done – so, stay tuned to see if I can pull this off or not!
  • This week, I finally went after an idea that I’ve had for a long time. I will be posting more about it on my blog next week – so stay tuned!!
