  • Happy first week of spring!
Okay, okay, it’s not technically spring yet, but a few days this week, it sure felt like it!
A glorious warm-front blew thru this week & we had a string of sunny (what?!) 40º & 50º days! We got out of the house & played in our backyard, and even spent an afternoon at the park with the Aunties & cousins! It was fantastic – not just for everyone’s moods, but for our health & wellbeing. Almost all of our snow is melted – it definitely feels like spring is right around the corner!
I’m just thankful that it was warm enough, for long enough, to melt the thick sheet of ice that was under my car (that made getting in & out of the car a terrifying experience).
  • All these sunny, warmer days are putting me in spring-cleaning mode & I won’t lie: I kind of love it.
  • You know those moments when you think: “Hmm, my children have been too quiet for too long.” And you head off to see what in the world they’re up to – holding your breath that they haven’t completely destroyed something? (Because we all know: silence is rarely a good thing!) I had two of those moments this week. One had a really sweet & good ending – I discovered the kids up in Leander’s bedroom. Braelynn had set up a whole “flock” of stuffed animals & was reading books to them, while Leander was sitting in his rocking chair, reading a stack of books next to him! I could hardly believe it! I just stood there, peeking around the corner, watching them play & read quietly together.
The other quiet moment didn’t have quite the happy ending: Braelynn had been coloring in the living room & left all of her markers & paper out as she went upstairs to her bedroom. Leander came along behind & decided it would be fun to color – on himself. I came out of my office to discover he was now the delightedly proud owner of some very colorful feet & hands! Thankfully – Braelynn’s markers were washable, so a few baby wipes later & Leander was good as new.
Let’s be honest: it could have been MUCH much worse (I won’t even write out any possible worse scenarios for fear that acknowledging them might mean they come true – use your imagination.)
  • I have FINALLY started into what is my biggest project of the year – creating our family yearbook for the previous year! I created a massive book last year, chronicling all of my favorite images from 2019 & it quickly became one of my most treasured possessions. After creating & printing my book last year, I promised myself that I would make a book every single year. It’s a MASSIVE undertaking: I have to go thru every single image I took in 2020 (both with my big camera & on my iPhone) & choose my favorites, I have to format them, and then I take those images (roughly about around 2,000 of them) & design the book. I’ve finally finished going thru all of my personal images & started the (much more enjoyable step of) designing the book! It’s a lot of fun to put all of our images together – telling the story of our year as a family! I LOVE it & even though it’s so much work, it’s TOTALLY worth it. It’ll be a while until I finish the design, get it ordered, and receive it back, but when I do, I promise to show it off!! I’m just so excited to finally be thru the “culling” step & onto the “designing” step!
  • Speaking of 2020 images & highlights – I finished off posting my favorite images from 2020 this week & a fun highlight video of my favorite clips from our amusement park adventures!
  • 2020 taxes – DONE. Thank the Lord.
  • Last weekend, our dishwasher decided to bow out & die. Thankfully, Derrick & my Dad were able to get a new one the same day & get it installed – it’s been working GREAT!
Well, on Tuesday, we woke up to a puddle of water in the kitchen – streaming from the fridge. UGH. Half-worried that we were going to be buying a new fridge on top of the new dishwasher, I set off to figure out what was wrong & where the water was coming from.
Long story short – it seemed to just be the water hookup for the ice-maker leaking. I shut that off & the leak stopped.
  • Leander decided this week that he wants to sit & eat at the table with us, like a big boy. Up to this point, he’s been sitting in his highchair (we have a booster with a tray) but this week, he deliberately pushed his booster up to the table – purposefully wanting to sit AT the table with us. How is our little dude so big already?
  • This morning at breakfast, Braelynn made the statement: “Daddy, you’re the BEST Daddy in the whole world.” We grinned & I asked her, “Why do you say that?” She responded, “Because you are so tall & you can reach everything that I can’t.”
