- Leander has pooped on my bathroom floor twice this week.
Clarification: upon getting undressed to get in the bathtub, poop has slipped out of his diaper & hit my bathroom floor twice this week.
Moving on. - I think we’re finally out of the “potential for frost” zone, so we officially started the process of planting flowers this week!
Now listen: I am not a gardener. In fact, I kind of hate gardening (of every shape, size, and kind). It just does not bring me joy.
I’ve tried! I’ve tried buying big luscious plants at a greenhouse & they never seem to survive. I’ve tried indoor plants – no luck there either. Maybe I just have a black thumb & that’s why I hate gardening?
Regardless, my daughter loves flowers & loves the process of planting & growing flowers. So, every year I resort to the one thing I know I can grow: zinnias. In fact, they grow so well for me, I harvest the seeds from them every fall & plant those seeds every spring. It’s a win-win.
There’s just one problem: it’s not like you can just go out, toss the seeds down, and call it a day. I have to go out, clear my little flower bed out from all the junk that’s collected/grown there over the winter, I have to dig up all the soil & loosen it up so I can plant – it’s a lot of work (and I only have two tiny flower beds!)
But, I love my daughter, and I do love when flowers grow (I just am not very good at executing that process) so, we did it this week.
Do you know what the best part was? After clearing the spaces out & digging up the soil, Braelynn & Leander had their little shovels & were digging along with me & discovered worms. They found them absolutely fascinating! Braelynn collected every worm she could find & put them all in a container with dirt & they now live in her treehouse as her “pets”. I’m not sure how long they’ll survive there, but it’s fun at the moment. - Speaking of Braelynn, she built a 300-piece puzzle this week! Up to this point, she’s only built 100 and 150-piece puzzles, so 300 pieces was quite the challenge. It took her a few days & I had to help her out with some of the trickier parts, but she did it! I am so proud of her!
- I bought myself a new alarm clock this week. I know, super exciting news around here – but listen! I really hate waking up to an alarm (it’s no fun jolting awake) but I have really wanted to be more disciplined about waking up at a set time and before the kids. I’ve had my eye on this clock for a long time & this week, it got marked down, so I snatched it up!
The way it works: you set a time for an auditory alarm (and it has some really gentle sounds to choose from), but you can set it up so that before it sounds the auditory alarm, the light turns on. It starts off as a deep red color, then transitions to orange, to yellow, and then to white – all the while getting brighter & brighter – mimicking the sun. If that doesn’t wake you up, the auditory alarm will then go off.
This clock is brilliant. Instead of being jolted awake, heart pounding, scared out of your wits, it offers the most delightful gentle, gradual wake up call. I was worried that it wouldn’t be bright enough as our bedroom gets the morning sun, but so far, I’ve always woken up before the auditory alarm goes off! I’m quite obsessed with my new gadget! - Speaking of new gadgets: I bought something else for myself this week that I’ve never bought for myself before. I use this item every single day, but with what I received for my bridal showers (11 years ago) & as random gifts, I’ve never felt like I needed to buy one of these. But this week, after burning my hand again, I said enough was enough & I bought myself a new oven mitt at Target. I’m just on a roll with all these new fancy things – I feel so special!
- If you missed it – I posted a ton of photos & stories & a highlight video from our Florida trip this week! I just cannot believe that our vacation is over – it feels like it was a lifetime ago (and it was just 2 weeks ago). If you missed it, go back & see Part 1 here and Part 2 here.
- On Thursday, we went over to my parent’s house – my sister was bringing her kids over & so the cousins were going to play together. Braelynn just adores her little cousins & Alethea is finally old enough to follow Braelynn around & take part in her imaginings (they were pirates on Thursday: they had a ship (the playground), swords (sticks), treasure (acorns), and were off on adventures. It was hilarious & very entertaining to watch! Then, Ruby brought out a slip’n’slide she had just bought & oh boy was that fun. Braelynn totally got it & absolutely loved it – Leander did not get it, but loved splashing in the water that pooled at the end. They had the absolute best day! I’m so thankful for family & the sweet cousins my kids have (on both sides of our family) – we’re very blessed.
