Highlight of the Week

I got to meet a new little babe this week!! Mitch & Larissa had tiny Mr. Vernon on Sunday and Braelynn & I were able to ride up to NEPA to visit! Just another one of the amazing perks of owning my own business! He is so perfect, and so beautiful, and simply amazing. Sidney is going to be the best big brother and the little man is already trying to be just like his big brother – they look so much alike & you can tell, Vern is going to be brilliant just like Sidney is. It was so amazing to be able to visit & catch up & of course, take a few photos!

 

Yes, This Happened

• Braelynn’s Sleeping Update: we had that one night where Braelynn slept all the way through the night without waking up, and so far, it hasn’t happened again. We’ve still had success with her sleeping in her own bed all night (or most of the night), but I’ve still had to go in at least once or twice a night to reassure her & tell her to go back to sleep. I’m sure eventually, she’ll figure it out and sleep all the way through the night on her own, right?
• We’re at ONE WEEK until the BIG day! Ellen & Jonathan’s wedding is just one week away! So, we’re in the trenches of that last week before a wedding – so many little tasks that need accomplished! But we sat down today & mapped out everything that needs to happen in the next few days, and I feel like we’re in a really good place! Wish us luck!

Feeling Blessed

On Friday, I made a monumental mistake. Like, heart-attack, I’m-going-to-die, this-is-the-end size mistake. In a nutshell, I thought I had double booked myself for two weddings on the same Saturday this fall. I know I say this every year, but I seriously have the most amazing line-up of couples this year. Seriously. I love and feel connected to every single couple that has booked their wedding photography with me so far & the thought of having to let one of them go literally broke my heart into a billion little razor sharp pieces. It was agony.

Long story very short: I did NOT double book myself & everything is completely fine. It’s a complicated situation, but it’s all 100% okay. Talk about hitting your knees and crying thanks be to God!

I have several big fears when it comes to wedding days: the most unfounded (and one that shows up most commonly in my dreams) is that I show up to shoot a wedding without my camera, batteries, or memory cards. Other fears come from more of a place of reality, like hitting traffic or a detour & being late, getting a location wrong and not knowing where I’m actually supposed to be, losing wedding images before I can process them, and double booking a wedding date. Because of these fears, I have installed certain systems & workflows into my business so that I do everything in my power to avoid these situations. For example: I always leave at least 30 minutes ahead of schedule just in case of traffic or detours, I double & triple check all locations & times with my brides & grooms several weeks prior to the wedding day, I shoot my images on 2 separate cards so in case anything happens to the main card – I have a backup, and I write down wedding dates in several different locations & in several different ways.

Like I said, the whole situation is a very long story & I’ll gladly share if you’d like a mild heart-attack. But, I’ve never been so thankful to be mistaken in my life.
