Highlight of the Week
After a quick change of plans last weekend, we ended up at the lake house. We were supposed to be visiting Derrick’s cousin in Washington DC, but when her little guy got sick, we postponed that trip. Instead, we went to the lake house and had the most gorgeous, sunny, and warm weekend we’ve had all year! It felt like what Labor Day weekend should have been (our Labor Day weekend was freezing cold & rainy this year). We went swimming, sat around the fire, took a long walk, went for a boat ride, Derrick got in a little knee-boarding – it was the perfect weekend to end our season there. It’s slightly depressing to say, but that was our last weekend at the lake house for this year! What a weekend to go out on.
Yes, This Happened
- Derrick actually took this photo! This entire week has been so summer-like (more summer-like than when it was officially summer) and we’ve spent almost every single evening after dinner, running around the yard, blowing bubbles, drawing with chalk, & playing with Abby. One of those evenings, Derrick grabbed the camera & took a few photos of us out in the yard & he snapped this one of Abby! I love how it turned out & thus it’s Abby’s photo of the week!
- Part 6 of our Love Story Series is up! If you missed it, here’s the link to get you back into Derrick & I’s story of how we met, got to know each other, and fell in love!
- To continue on our weekly trend of Braelynn getting a “facial injury”, just as her bruise from last week’s jumping incident faded, she took a little tumble down our stairs this week. Thankfully, I was right behind her and saw the whole thing happening (in slow motion). She only fell down 3 steps when she hit the landing (so it could have been much much worse). So, now she’s recovering from a brush-burn up beside her right eye. Hopefully, that is the third incident, and we’ll be free of facial injuries for a little while!
- Braelynn mistook a gluestick for chapstick this week – enough said there.
- I have been back to giving Ruby a piano lesson every week. Braelynn & I typically head over to my Mom’s around 10am and then hang out for lunch. While we were sitting at the table eating lunch, Braelynn noticed a stink bug crawling up the wall. She initially called it out as a spider, but we corrected her and told her it was a “stink bug”. We told her that “Uncle Cheese” would take care of it. She promptly shouted: “Uncle Cheese! Get that stinkin’ bug!” We just about died.
Feeling Blessed
I am so excited for this weekend! I’ve been looking forward to Adam & Jess’s wedding since we sat in Starbucks for over 2 hours last year & chatted away, losing all track of time! Jess is Megan’s little sister & I absolutely cannot wait to reconnect with these lovely girls & their family. My trusty sidekick, Ellen, will be by my side as my second shooter – it’s simply going to be the most fabulous wedding to kick off the fall season – I am so stinkin’ excited!!
