Highlight of the Week
On Wednesday evening, my friend Tiffany & I attended the First Anniversary Captured::Pittsburgh Gala. We were both specifically invited as we had been “featured artists” during their first year (I wrote about the experience here!) In usual fashion, I had received the invitation, forwarded it on to Derrick, asking if he wanted to go, and then forgot about it entirely. It wasn’t until Tuesday morning when Tiffany & I were hanging out that she mentioned the Gala was the following night & asked if we were going. Oops. It all worked out though, because Tiffany’s husband, Aaron, decided that he’d rather go hunting on Wednesday evening than get dressed up & go to a Gala in the city. So, she asked if I’d want to go in his place & so I got to go as her “date”! We had so much fun! We had dinner & enjoyed live music – but the best part was dressing up for the black tie event! We might both be wedding photographers, but we rarely get to dress up & take part in the party – so we had a blast!
Yes, This Happened
- Why is my house a magnet for gigantic spiders?! My siblings who were house-sitting for us found & killed a huge one while we were in Texas. We came home one weekend to find one had built himself quite the fortress on the steps going upstairs. And then this week, I found one chilling in my sink. IT WAS HUGE. And I screamed. Being early in the morning & being the only adult home, I had to pull up my big girl panties and kill the thing myself. It was terrifying. I missed the first time and went screaming into the other room. I got him the second time. What do we do about this?! Tips for spider-proofing our house are appreciated!!
- I wrote Part 7 of our love story this week. I know – this thing is just crawling along. For those of you who thought me writing our love story would come out in 3 short “chapters” – I’m sorry. I knew it was going to be long & that’s why I put it off for so long. In reality, I’m not writing it so much for you all (although, I don’t mind publishing it & giving y’all a peek into our little story) – in reality, I’m writing it for Braelynn. I want her to be able to sit down one day & read all about how her Mommy & Daddy fell in love. It’s our legacy. And so bear with me as I write out all the little details.
And if you’ve read along with our story so far – thank you so much!! I started on our anniversary & have published a new “chapter” every month since, so they’ll keep coming! Be on the lookout at the end of every month for a new “chapter” to our story! - Braelynn told Derrick this week that she was going to eat all of her food so she could “get big like you.” And when he asked her why she wanted to get big like him, she responded, “So we can go ride roller coasters.” Of course, he got quite the kick out of this. And then she added, “We can go to ride roller coasters, and Mommy can stay home. We’ll come back to see her when we’re done.” Wow – thanks kid.
Feeling Blessed
You guys: I’m actually writing this Abby’s Saturday on Saturday! This may come as a shock (and if it ruins everything, I’m so sorry) but like HGTV, not everything you see is real. All summer, I’ve been writing Abby’s Saturday posts on Thursday or Friday. We’ve been away & traveling almost every single weekend this summer, so Saturdays aren’t always the freest days for me to sit down & pound out a post!
But today, we’re home! I’m not even sure what to do with myself! We’re actually home & have the day “off” (sort of, I had a wedding meeting this morning, but that’s all. Hey, I’m a small business owner – “days off” don’t really exist. Besides, I never mind the excuse to get some Starbucks & sit and chat with an adorable new KAP Couple). Otherwise, what does the “real world” do on Saturdays?
I know what I’ll be doing! I have a few little projects to finish up (remember: small business owner) and then I need to pack! My birthday present kicks in tomorrow & I am so excited! Any guesses for what we’re doing?!
