Highlight of the Week
This week officially brought in the first day of summer!! And what better way to kick off summer than with ice cream? Derrick spontaneously came home from work on Wednesday & said, “Let’s go get ice cream after dinner.” Needless to say: that’s not a request you have to make of me twice! We went off to Kerber’s to enjoy some ice cream, playing on their little mini-playground, and watching their goats! What a splendid way to kick off summer! (plus, I can already check an item off my summer bucket list – YAY!)
Yes, This Happened
- I published Part 3 of Derrick & I’s love story this week! If you missed it, it’s a good one – we met at a wedding & this is the part where I yell at Derrick for “winging” his Best Man toast duties!
- BEDTIME SAGA: Again, I am scared to even write this, but we’ve had a fairly decent week! For the most part, Braelynn hasn’t had a problem going to sleep in her toddler bed (that was hurdle number 1). She’s also been getting better and better at going to sleep on her own (that was hurdle number 2 – when we first switched her to a toddler bed, I would have to stay in the room with her in order for her to go to sleep). However, the next hurdle to get over is going to be getting her to stay in her own bed all night. Every night, she gets up & wanders into our room & finds her way into our bed. Which, I mean, we’re all sleeping, so there’s that. But, I’d really like for us all to be sleeping in our own beds – ya know? So, that’s the next step: sleep all night in her own bed. We’re getting there – little by little (I think anyways!)
- Braelynn has been quite the character this week:
Derrick was laying his head on the table after dinner one night & Braelynn said: “Daddy, are you tired?” He responded, “Yes, baby.” She said, “It’s okay Daddy, maybe you’ll wake up tomorrow.”
While we were praying one night, Braelynn asked to pray by herself. She did so good & basically repeated a lot of what we normally say (she’s listening!) but then added “Thank You for Sarah & Duck” (the Brittish tv show she’s obsessed with).
I was folding laundry in our bedroom and Braelynn was in our guest room/Derrick’s office. I peeked in to see what she was doing & she was “playing” his keyboard & singing!
Braelynn has really figured out what “playing dress-up” is this week & has taken the liberty to also dress Abby up every single time. At one point, Abby had so many “dress-up” accessories on her, she just looked like a pile of clothes!
Feeling Blessed
This weekend is a bit insane for me (send all the coffee), but I’m super excited! Not only is today Mallory & Joey’s long awaited wedding day, but it takes place at The Shoresbrook Inn (which I guess is now officially called The Inn on Quarry Glen)! It’s the 3rd year in a row that I’ve photographed a wedding at this fabulous little venue & I’m so excited to go back! Every time I’m there, they’ve improved the property, added fun little areas, and it just gets better and better! I can’t wait to take Ellen there (my first wedding of the year with a second-shooter! YAY!) – it’s going to be an amazing wedding day!
