Highlight of the Week
Well, we unknowingly missed National Macaron Day by 24 hours, but on Thursday, Ruby & I tried our hands at making macarons! It’s something we’ve been talking & thinking about since Ellen’s French Themed Bridal Shower back in December, and this week, prompted by what looked like a super easy video, we decided to go for it. I think having the video to watch was the key – because our macarons turned out as a success!! I could hardly believe it – everyone talks about how difficult they are to get right, so I was totally expecting a flop – but they worked! They were supposed to be “Strawberry Cheesecake Macarons”, but we got the food coloring mixed up & ours turned out yellow. Then, we didn’t have strawberry jelly, only raspberry, so we made yellow, raspberry filled, macarons – HAHA. They were delicious though & I think we’re totally going to be making them again!! (PS – the video we watched can be found here)
Yes, This Happened
- I think the afternoon nap & Braelynn have parted ways. Talk about upsetting. I count on her afternoon nap to work & get things accomplished. And, she hasn’t taken an afternoon nap all week. The first night she was super grumpy by dinnertime, the second night she actually fell asleep on the floor right before dinner (and then cried for a solid hour right thru dinner because she was so groggy/confused), but then the 3rd & 4th nights weren’t so bad. On one hand, it’s kind of nice to not have to rush home to put her down for a nap, but on the other hand, I’ve been restricted to only working after she goes to sleep at night, and that’s tough. Needless to say, starting next week, I’ll be having Braelynn’s favorite babysitter (and best friend) over a few days a week to hang out while I work. I knew this transition was coming, I was just hoping it wouldn’t be for a little bit longer!
- Our Memorial Day went a little bit different then we’d planned. Instead of being at the Lake House, we ended up back home on Sunday. We planned a spur-of-the-moment yard sale for Monday morning, thinking it would be a smashing success, even with no advertising! See, the Memorial Day Parade runs one block up from our house, so we figured we would get a bunch of the parade attendees to come to our sale. It was rough from the start and a whole 2, yes two, people came to our sale, and we made a whole 1, yes one, sale. Talk about discouraging. All the work of getting up early, pulling stuff out, pricing things, and setting everything out & it was the biggest flop that ever was. Those parade attendees? They literally walked by on the opposite side of the street. Apparently, Memorial Day itself is not the day to have a yard sale (planning ahead & advertising is probably helpful too).
That’s okay though, since we had already gone thru all the work of gathering stuff, we stuck it all down in our basement & plan to give it another go in a few weeks when we’re all home on a Saturday. We’re going to do it right this time: advertising, nice big signs – it’ll be so much better!
