Abby’s Saturday // Four Hundred And Twenty-One

Abbys Saturday Black Lab and Kids in Back Yard in Irwin PA
  • I finally broke out my fall decor this week. Normally, I pull out my fall stuff the first week of September, so I’m a bit behind this year. What hasn’t changed at all over the last few years though is – as I’m putting out my fall decor, I’m putting away another season/holiday’s decor. And, you probably would assume that to be “summer” – but nope, I put away my spring/Easter stuff. I guess I’m just really really terrible at decorating my house for “summer” and spring bleeds right into fall. Oh well.
  • We have baby bunnies in our yard – again. Last summer, we (actually, Abby) discovered a nest of baby bunnies under our swingset. The babies were already “furred” and hopping around when we found them last year.
This year – we found brand-spankin-new babies! They are itty bitty, completely naked, and not really moving at all.
Of course, Braelynn and Leander are OBSESSED with them. We built a temporary fence around the base of the swingset (yet, they’re in the exact same spot as last year) so Abby won’t bother them, but that hasn’t stopped Braelynn and Leander! All they want to do is sit and look at the babies.
Google says it came take up to three weeks for them to grow fur and mature enough to leave the nest. In other words: it’s going to be a LONG next three weeks.
  • Have you heard of the newest “all-the-rage” thing – Mighty Patches? I don’t know, maybe they’ve been a “thing” for a while now, but I just discovered them (thanks Elyse Myers) a few weeks ago. I don’t have a lot of acne problems, but once a month, I do tend to have a few pimples pop up on my chin – so I decided to give these things a whirl. And, I got it. I was sold. There was just one problem: Mighty Patches (the original, name-brand) are on the expensive side. So much that I found myself cutting the little circles in half to maximize the box I bought (I’m a cheapskate, okay?)
I began searching for alternatives and found these lovely little knock-offs on Amazon. I added them to my subscribe and save (so I could get an even better discount) and got them last week! They work just as well as the name-brand and are wayyyy cheaper. SCORE. Go get them.
  • Who wants a potty training update? I’m actually EXCITED to report on this this week.
    GUYS.
After potty training Leander for TEN MONTHS –
    We have finally made progress.
    *cue all the emotional-weepy-happy-tears*
Part of me is actually scared to say anything for fear that we’ll jinx it, but at this point, I just don’t care. I want to shout it from the rooftops!!
Leander has not had a full-on accident (pee) in his pants ALL WEEK LONG. (He did have a very tiny accident yesterday, but he caught himself, stopped, and immediately ran to the potty!)
Just in case you missed it: that’s not just “one” accident free day – but a whole WEEK of accident free days.
Okay, so before you break out the confetti guns, let me bring this down a notch by saying: we still haven’t figured out pooping on the potty.
BUT I DON’T EVEN CARE at this point. This has been the most progress we have made EVER, and I can hardly even believe it.
What did we do different? Nothing really. I did make him up a sticker chart (which I tried before) and promised him a bag of gummy-snacks after he filled three boxes in a row (again, we did candy-rewards before). Once he filled the ENTIRE chart (21 boxes), he could pick from the prize-box (or, as I keep reminding him, if he poops on the potty – that’s an automatic go-straight-to-the-prize-box moment). We literally just did the same things that we’ve done in the past, but for some reason – this week it worked. He even went to Grandma’s house for a few hours on Tuesday (sticker chart and gummies in hand) and stayed dry. We also attended a surprise birthday party for my brother-in-law one night and he stayed dry that night too!
So, I’m not stating that we’ve “arrived”, because I know there is still work to do to solidify this new habit, but I am BEYOND proud of how far we’ve come this week!! WAY TO GO, LEANDER!
  • Tuesday was my favorite day of the month: our monthly Rising Tide Society meeting. We had an awesome turnout this month, met at a lovely little coffee shop, drank delicious frozen coffee, and chatted all about marketing. It was such a wonderful, refreshing time.
