- What a DAY today is! It is absolutely GLORIOUS outside! I keep telling my kids to go out and enjoy the “last” nice, sunny, warm fall day – and I think they’re getting annoyed with me because I’ve said it at least 5 times. (But in reality, today will likely be the last day this year that temps reach up into the 70s!)
Derrick’s parents were here last weekend and we (finally) replaced the second half of our windows! When we moved into our house 7 years ago, we replaced all of the windows upstairs, and always said we’d come back around and replace the ones downstairs “eventually”. Well, last weekend was the time and so we have all brand new, shiney windows downstairs now! And, while they were going in, I made the comment that I wish we could have just a few more warm days that I could OPEN our new windows to! Our old windows did not open. Well, 2 of our old windows opened about 6 inches, but the rest were non-functional. So, I could never open my windows downstairs to get fresh air in our house – our windows were just too old and “frail”.
Needless to say, I am SO THANKFUL that we’ve had a string of really beautiful warm days! It has been so so so wonderful to throw open all of our windows and air out our house!! - Speaking of Derrick’s parents – Derrick’s Dad is the “master pancake maker” – he makes his pancakes a very specific and special way. Derrick has been trying to replicate his Dad’s pancakes for our entire marriage (almost 13 years) – he’s come close a few times, but never quite nailed it. Well, I am proud to report that this morning, he did it. And now comes the biggest test of all – can he do it again? Stay tuned!
- We watched the new Top Gun movie last night – and all I can say is WOW. We desperately wanted to go see it in the theaters, but with all of our travels and jobs and the kids, we were never able to work it out. So, last night we finally were able to watch it. I am so proud to say it 100% lived up to the hype and is lightyears better than the first Top Gun movie. SO GOOD. I want to watch it again. (If you haven’t seen it, go watch it right now.) It’s just such a solid story, with the perfect amount of suspense, twists, and turns, beautiful cinematography, and fun characters. We can’t stop talking about it!
- Halloween was on Monday, so we went trick or treating! Actually, we went trick or treating twice last weekend – on Saturday we walked up and down Main Street in Downtown Irwin to trick or treat at the businesses there, and then Monday night was the “official” trick or treat! Braelynn and Leander had been counting down the days, hours, and minutes until we could go! They had an absolute blast – it was a beautiful night and we had so much fun walking around! And then, right as we were coming up our street, only about a block away from being home, it started to DOWNPOUR! Needless to say, it was an interesting/memorable way to end the evening! (You can see it raining in our family film for October – go watch it here!)
- Leander has fallen asleep three days this week, on the couch, right before dinner. He never takes a nap anymore, so that’s been a bit bizarre (maybe it’s all that extra fresh air?) And he doesn’t just fall into a little light nap, no, it’s a super deep sleep that he’s a bear to try to wake up from! Needless to say, we’ve been working extra hard the last two days to make sure it doesn’t happen again!
- My sister took our family photos this week (and then the next night, I took her family photos!) WHEW does it feel good to have that done and checked off the list!! It was seriously the best experience we’ve had yet thanks to the kids finally being old enough to “get it” and understand what we’re doing. We had so much fun and my sister took the most AMAZING images!! Since we’re both photographers, we take each other’s photos and then just swap memory cards so we each edit our own images. It works out brilliantly and we each trust each other impeccably, so it’s a huge win-win!!
- Is it weird to put up our Christmas tree, with our windows open?
