- I can’t wrap my head around the fact that Labor Day weekend has come and gone. It still seems out there – in the future sometime. We spent our weekend at Deep Creek Lake – I photographed a beautiful wedding on Saturday and then we spent the rest of the weekend just relaxing at the lake house. Of course: it wouldn’t be Labor Day without some rain – clouds rolled in and the sky opened up just as we were finishing cooking our dinner over the fire on Sunday night. And then it never stopped raining. It rained all Sunday evening, all through the night, and was still raining Monday morning. Even though the kids were bummed that they weren’t able to swim more (they did swim all day Saturday and the beginning of Sunday afternoon) it was still just so nice to relax and be somewhere other than home. It’s been a whirlwind of a crazy last few weeks – and even though my busy-season is still super busy and in full swing, some of our other aspects of our life have started to (finally) calm down – making things much more manageable!!
- Braelynn made a deal with me: if she slept in her bed until 8am – then I would bring her a breakfast of pancakes in bed.
Of course, I heartily agreed to this arrangement – if this is what it took to get her to sleep until 8am, I’d happily cook her breakfast and serve it to her “breakfast in bed” style!!
Newsflash: she didn’t make it and was up by 6:30am the next morning as usual. - We had the cousins, Alethea and Layla, over for a play-date this week! The kids have been begging to see them all week, so I invited them to come over for an afternoon. Braelynn and Leander were in heaven – Leander kept walking around saying: “Layla is my best friend.” They played outside, played inside, ate ice cream sandwiches, chased each other all over our house and yard – it was delightful.
- Is “fall cleaning” a thing (you know, like “spring cleaning” but in the fall?) Because I’ve been on a “fall cleaning” kick this week. I went through both Braelynn and Leander’s bedrooms and purged so much stuff. I sorted through all the toys in our living room and third floor and thinned them all out (and then completely re-vamped our third floor toy-area).
I then had every intention to bring down all of our fall decorations and officially decorate for fall (goodbye Easter decorations – YES I still have Easter stuff up *face palm*) but I never made it that far (oops). I guess that’s a task for next week. - We started “fresh” with potty training (again) this week. I made up a pretty chart, pulled out all of our stickers, put on my “positive-this-is-going-to-work” attitude annnddddd – I’m not sure if we made any progress or not. Leander just does not care. He knows 100% what he’s doing – he knows how to hold it, he knows how to control it, he knows how to pee on the potty – but he just does not care. If he’s “not busy”, he’ll stop and go to the bathroom, but if he’s invested in something – I come out to a puddle (or worse) on the floor. The kid just could care less.
We’ve been potty training for 10 months now. Someone please tell me he will get it (and preferably soon, because I’m beyond exhausted at playing this game at this point). - I took a similar photo to this week’s Abby’s Saturday before – it was back in 2019. At the time, she was just starting to get a little grey around her eyes and I wanted to capture it – and well, now, she’s full on elder-dog.
