- Happy first (official) week of summer! Wednesday was the longest day of the year and the first day of summer – and western Pennsylvania celebrated with mid-60’s temps. What?! Yeah, it’s been on the chilly side this week – when are the hot, summer days going to arrive? My kids want to get out the pool and play in the splash-pad-thing I bought and test out their new water balloons. This is bonkers.
- On Monday, Derrick and I took a 24-hour getaway and went to Hersheypark! We left the kids with my parents and dashed across the state to go check out Wildcat’s Revenge. We missed Hershey’s newest roller coaster’s media day because we were in Florida (yes, I’m still slightly salty about that), but the park was still generous enough to have us out after-the-fact! We were able to take advantage of Hershey’s get-in-the-last-two-hours-of-the-night-before-your-regular-ticket-day offer – so we were able to run back to Wildcat’s Revenge and get three wonderful rides in before the night ended. We then were able to spend most of the day Tuesday capturing footage and riding the other rides – we had a splendid time (even though we missed our kiddos dreadfully). We forgot how quickly you can move through a park when you don’t have children in tow and have to parent-swap every ride!
- Since last weekend was Father’s Day, and my wedding last weekend was on a Friday – we had plans to get up Saturday morning and spend the rest of the weekend at the Lake House with the rest of my family. That is, until both Leander and Derrick came down with the same awful sickness I had while we were in Florida two weeks ago (it’s this crappy sinus/cold thing that just clings on and refuses to go away). So, we ended up spending a quiet weekend at home.
- HOWEVER – since we were home (with zero plans), Braelynn took advantage of the beautiful weekend and decided that she wanted to learn how to ride her bike. She spent almost the entire days Saturday and Sunday practicing, then took her bike to my parent’s house and rode in their yard all day Monday and Tuesday, and by the time Wednesday rolled around – she had officially figured it out! I’m so proud of this girl – she really was so determined to figure it out and she truly taught herself how to ride. Derrick and I gave her tips and pointers and encouragement, but it truly was all her own will and determination to learn that made it happen!
On Wednesday, she rode up and down the sidewalk in front of our house and our neighbor’s house. By Thursday, she had graduated to the longer stretch of sidewalk around the corner (about 9 houses long), and by Friday, she had graduated to actually going the full circle around the block.
She’s still working on some precision steering and turning, but she’s got the basics down and at this rate, she’ll be a pro by the end of next week.
Leander’s been biking right alongside Braelynn all day, every day! He’s gotten pretty good (and fast) on his little bike too! It’s so much fun to watch! - We made a quick stop in to Kennywood Thursday night to get dinner at the brand new Primanti Brother’s location! It was delicious. The sandwiches we got were HUGE and very reasonably priced – I think it is going to be our new go-to when we eat dinner at Kennywood!
- Rachel & Micky’s wedding kicked off my June/July streak last Friday – things continue today with Deb and Bill’s wedding (fingers crossed that the rain holds off at all the right portions of the day!)
