- So, we’ve been sick (obviously). And, by “we” I mean, the kids have been sick. It’s been one thing after another. One gets better, then the other gets sick, then the sick one passes it to the healthy one – it’s this whole vicious cycle.
And last weekend, being sick kept us from our traveling plans. We had planned to go visit Derrick’s parents, but as Braelynn was on the up-swing and finally feeling better, Leander got it and was on the decline. So, we stayed home.
And, while everyone was sad (obviously), I was (secretly) a little relieved. We’ve been going-going-going (sickness or not) for the last few weeks and we have a full schedule coming up over the next few weeks, so taking a weekend to stay home, relax, and get caught up sounded divine.
I instantly made BIG plans in my head. I was going to get so much work done. - And then, Saturday morning, we lost our home internet.
Both Derrick and I have businesses that revolve heavily on internet access. And 90% of the things I had planned to do last weekend, NEEDED internet access to accomplish.
So, there went all of my grand plans completely out the window. Sure, we could still do some things, but it was crazy how many little things we went to do – without even thinking – and then realized: we couldn’t do them.
The least of which was: suddenly we had no access to streaming services. And, with a house of sick kiddos (one of which had pink eye) – the only thing they wanted to do was lay on the couch and watch Paw Patrol.
Let’s just say: we felt like pioneers getting out our DVDs and dusting them off.
But back to the internet outage. A really bad storm had rolled through and we assumed that when our power surged, it killed our router. No big deal: we knew a new router was on the horizon anyway. So, Derrick went out & got one, set it up, called to activate it, and we had no internet. He troubleshooted with the Xfinity guy for over an hour, and they could not get it up and running, so a tech was scheduled to come out Monday morning.
And we settled in to be without internet for the next 36 hours.
Then, Xfinity called us back and said, “We think we fixed the problem! Let’s try setting up your router again!” So, Derrick went through all the steps with the guy on the phone again and again, nothing.
Monday morning dawned and at 8:30am, a tech walked in our door.
He checked our internet connection – all was good.
Plugged in our new router – turned it on – and DING – connection.
(Can you imagine the face I was making right about then? Can you imagine what I was feeling?)
Let’s just say: I was very thankful to have my internet back (and be able to respond to emails again). We’ll leave it at that. - Speaking of internet – one of the things I wanted to do while we were home last weekend and couldn’t (so it got pushed on to this week’s to-do list) was purchase Derrick’s brand new website domain, hosting, and design services! It isn’t quite ready to reveal yet, but we’ve been working on it all week and I’m SUPER excited! We cannot wait to unveil the new home of XscreamThrills!!
- Oh and speaking of Derrick, there’s something I need to say: Derrick creates amazing, beautiful, QUALITY content – and he does a TOP-NOTCH job that he is rarely recognized or rewarded for. We were watching some vlogs & YouTube videos the other night & wow, Derrick’s content is truly a step above – I am so proud of him and he truly deserves more recognition than he gets. (I’m not sure where else I can say that without putting anyone down, so I’m saying it here, because this is my space.)
- Anyways, after last weekend, the kids FINALLY seemed to turn a corner and began to get better! The most notable difference was in their sleep: for the last 3-4 weeks, the kids have just not been sleeping good (and when Leander is waking up multiple times a night and waking up early in the morning crying – you know something is wrong – that kid loves his sleep). But by the beginning of this week, that all seemed to turn a corner and suddenly they began sleeping better! Let’s just say: Mama didn’t realize how exhausted she was until she got a full, uninterrupted night of sleep and woke up actually feeling rested!
- Getting better meant that we were finally able to go to Kennywood with my Mom and sister and nieces this week! We’ve been trying to go forever, and we finally made it happen! We had the most wonderful, fun-filled day, even though it did start with some crazy rain rolling through! We got wet, rode some rides in the rain, but then the sun came out and it turned into a beautiful day.
- No thanks to our lost internet, but Derrick and I did finally finish Lost In Space! We’ve been quite obsessed with the show and finally found the time to finish the last season. Derrick was a little disappointed in the ending, but I was satisfied with it. I feel like, any time you get super invested in a TV show that has multiple seasons, it’s so hard to see it come to an end and have it wrap up. We really loved the show though – highly recommend.
