- Well – it’s official.
Our big boy is getting a BIG bed!
We transitioned Leander out of his crib last summer and simply brought Braelynn’s old toddler bed down from the attic for him. That was all fine and dandy – knowing that sooner, rather than later, we’d need to be getting him his own twin bed.
Unfortunately, somewhere between Braelynn using that twin bedframe, it being taken apart & stored in our attic, and it coming back down to Leander’s bedroom, it got broken. Some of the slats at the end of the bed (where your feet rest) just did not connect anymore. We were able to salvage it and “make it work”, but if anyone “large” tried to sit down at the foot of the bed, or anyone “small” tried to do anything other than just calmly and quietly laying down – the slats would move and there was an obvious “dip” at the end of his bed.
Like I said: we knew we were going to be getting him a regular twin bed soon, so we were just nursing it along.
Derrick finally got fed up with it this week and said, “Enough is enough!” – so we ordered Leander a brand new bed frame, mattress – the whole nine yards. And it all arrives today. - I went out on Monday night with a bunch of ladies from our church for dinner and a painting class! It was so fun (and slightly out of my comfort zone! I’m an introvert, and unless I’m in charge of an event, I always just feel like hiding in the shadows – or making up an excuse to stay home.) I knew going would be really good for me though, and it was. It was delightful to get out of the house, to sit and chat with ladies I “know”, but only within the confines of church-stuff.
- I started a new Instagram account. Shhh, it’s kind of been a secret (in fact, one of my sisters texted me, asking if it was real or if someone was trying to impersonate me). I decided to start it 100% on the down-low, just to see where it would go. I wanted a specific place to share the things I’m getting off of Amazon as an “influencer” – because, let’s be honest, the free stuff is great and has been so useful! However, I still have to pay taxes on that free stuff – and without an actual cash-flow associated with it, I have to come up with that money out of my own accounts. So, this is my attempt to actually make a little cash – in order to pay my taxes next year! We’ll see how it goes. (If you want to follow along, you can here!)
- I finished our February “daily life” family film this week! February is the anniversary of the very first “daily life” film I made for us, so February is always special. This film is the beginning of my 3rd year doing this specific project! So, in honor of that, we sat down and watched the very first “Abbey Archives” film I made (from February 2021), then the one from February last year, and then February this year. And all I can say is: I sat and cried at how teeny tiny my children were, how their voices were so small, how different they were, and how much they’ve grown and changed over the last two years. It’s just not fair.
- My parents and youngest brother and sister have been in Florida all week at Universal Studios! We’ve been incredibly jealous, but living vicariously through all of the photos and videos they’ve been sending us. They fly home today – we cannot wait to see them and hear all about their trip!
- So, the fact that they’ve been on vacation all week – combined with the fact that we haven’t traveled to do any “Adventuring Abbeys” stuff since SEPTEMBER – but I’ve had MAJOR cabin fever this week. I’ve looked at AirBnBs, indoor waterparks, airplane tickets to anywhere, I’ve gone slightly bonkers this week, looking for something to do. And (obviously), I wasn’t successful at finding anything for this weekend (even though I did call Derrick at work on Thursday and ask if we could go to Great Wolf Lodge for a night, because I found a “decent” deal and was going crazy – logic won out though and we decided it actually wasn’t the “best” deal.) We’ve done so much traveling over the last three years – and this is currently the longest stretch we’ve ever gone on without going anywhere – or at the very least, planning to go somewhere in the near future.
With Derrick starting this brand new position at work this week and the possibility of him traveling for training, plus a bunch of other factors going on in our lives, we have a ton of stuff “planned” – but nothing until later in the year.
I’m going slightly insane.
In other words, I’ve been trying to take my mind off of my “cabin fever” by starting new Instagram accounts, creating shorts for my YouTube channel, ordering Leander a new bed, taking new headshots for myself – I guess I get creative when I feel stir-crazy. - We had another randomly warm and glorious “summer” day in the middle of our week this week (that’s three weeks in a row that we’ve had a completely random 70º day in the middle of a more normal “February weather” week). The kids just don’t get it and have been beside themselves with wanting to get all of our “summer” stuff out (the hammock, the table and chairs, the pool). And, it’s currently sleeting-ish outside right now, so obviously I didn’t let them get any of that out.
It’s looking more and more like we are simply not going to get a “big” snowstorm at all this year (I mean, it still could happen, but the odds are shrinking every day) and we’re just going to transition into the “mud season”. Yay.
