- I know I mentioned this already a few weeks ago, but I just finally got around to getting a photo – our sweet boy now has a BIG BOY BED! (We ordered it off of Amazon if you’re curious, we got this frame, with this mattress – and so far, we are loving both of them!)
While Daddy was building the bed, Leander and I went to the store and I let him pick out his new comforter (just like I did when his sister got her big bed). As we walked down the “kids” aisle, I thought for sure he was going to pick one of the “character” sets – there was Mario and Sonic and PAW Patrol and Bluey! But to my surprise, he kept walking past all of those, and ended up at the end of the aisle where he decided he wanted a dinosaur comforter. (Needless to say, I was happy – his sister did the same thing when she bypassed all of the character stuff and decided on a unicorn comforter!)
Overall, Leander has done fabulous in his big bed (he has fallen out of it twice – oops!) but other than that, it’s been a super smooth transition.
(And if you’re thinking, wait, didn’t Leander just move into a bigger bed a few months ago? The answer is yes, he moved into a toddler bed last October – but he was truly too big for it from the very beginning, so we knew his time in the toddler bed would be short!) - On Wednesday, Derrick and I had the immense privilege of being invited (along with the local media) to a “construction tour” at Kennywood Park. The park was one month from opening day and they are starting to build hype around their upcoming 2023 season! This is Kennywood’s 125th year of operation – which is amazing and SO exciting! To celebrate, they have a lot of updates, some new events, and a brand new ride opening this year.
It was SO much fun to be in the park again. Walking through that tunnel brought tears to my eyes – we love our home-park and it feels like it’s been forever since we were there last! We never take for granted the wonderful relationship we have with the PR team at the park, and truly feel honored every time they reach out to us and invite us in to these special events! - So, Leander now calls Braelynn “Brae-wynn” instead of “Buh-nan”. That might seem silly, but he’s been calling her “Buh-nan” for his entire life. She’s been subtly coaching him over the last few weeks to say her actual, real name, and all of a sudden, he just started saying it. I could hardly believe my ears! Ugh, when does the growing and changing stop?
- Speaking of Leander – see how long his hair is in this photo? The poor kid truly could not see, his hair was so long. I tried to get him to swoop it to the side, but he just let it hang in front of his eyes Needless to say, we were overdue for a haircut! We finally made it in to see our hairdresser on Tuesday and Leander officially can see again! Whenever he gets a haircut, I swear he turns into a completely different kid! Braelynn got a little trim, Derrick got a solid trim, and I got a haircut too. (She cut my bangs a little bit too short, so I’m trying to figure out how to navigate that for a week or two until they grow in a little more! I keep seeing photos/videos of me, say last week, and all I can see is my bangs and how lovely they were – HAHA – they’re currently pretty “fringe” style!)
But back to Leander – getting his hair cut is typically a pretty dramatic event. In fact, last year at this time, we got his hair cut and it was literally the worst haircut anyone has ever been given (our poor hairdresser knew it too – the kid just would not sit still, and so a few extra large chunks got cut out where they shouldn’t have). Thankfully, it’s been a full year (and we’ve had a few haircuts since) and I’m proud to report that this was the best haircut we’ve had yet! He sat up in the chair, he didn’t fuss, he did get a little nervous a few times, but overall, he did FANTASTIC – I’m so proud of my boy! - Spring has obviously arrived – because suddenly we have stink bugs in our house again. Gross.
- We attended a big birthday celebration last Saturday for my nieces. Their birthdays are just two weeks apart, so this year they decided to have a “joint” birthday party. My children (obviously) adore their cousins, so they’ve been counting down the days until this party for weeks. It was so much fun! Especially since they had a PAW Patrol themed party – which obviously my children are very much into!
- It’s kind of been a rainy, crappy week – but on Thursday (after pouring down rain all morning – and actually thunderstorming!) the temps got warm enough that the kids begged to go outside and splash through the puddles. They do this every year – I let them put on their rain boots and tell them to, “Have at it!” They go out and have a blast getting super muddy and wet, and then I bring them in and toss them in the shower and all of their clothes in the wash. Well – Thursday was that day this year. Our yard was basically a big swimming pool at the point anyway, after all the rain we had, so it was pretty epic.
