- We got bikes this week!
This week was the semi-annual Just Between Friends sale in Monroeville, PA – it’s a MASSIVE kids consignment sale that I go to twice a year. I both sell stuff at the sale and shop the sale, so it’s a big week. My goal is always to simply make as much (or more) than I spend, and as of right now, I’m SO CLOSE to hitting that goal! I’m less than $20 away – and the sale runs all day today and half the day tomorrow. Needless to say: I’m pretty confident that I’ll hit that goal (YAY).
On my list of things to look for this time around was shorts and skirts and sleeveless shirts for Braelynn, shirts and pajamas for Leander, and bathing suits for both of them. I was also on the lookout for a good deal on bikes.
I’m thrilled to say: I scored everything I was looking for! I got the bikes at a really great price and was able to find precisely what I needed for them in the clothing department.
In other words: I’m calling it a huge success! (Now, I just wait for everything to wrap up on Sunday so I can go pick up whatever didn’t sell.) - The kids have been practicing hard to figure out their bikes – Leander’s got training wheels, so he’s on the brink of really “getting it”, but Braelynn just has a two-wheeler. Derrick worked with her on Thursday night – and then she practiced herself yesterday. She’ll get it! It just takes practice and time.
- We didn’t have a chance to practice last night because we were off celebrating my nephew, Leon’s first birthday!! It’s so crazy to believe that he’s already a whole year old! The little stinker was born on Derrick and I’s anniversary (while we were in Florida!) So, last night was his big first birthday party. My sister and brother-in-law packed out my parent’s house – there were a lot of people – but it was so much fun to celebrate!
- My Grandma has been having some health issues and went into the hospital a few weeks ago. She had a pacemaker put in and then transferred over to a nursing home for follow-up care. While she was there, the opportunity arose for her to move into a small apartment on-site of the nursing home – and she decided to take it. It’s about half the size of her current apartment, but it has no steps! It has a small outdoor patio she can sit out on and she can still take part in the activities that the nursing home has to offer – while still retaining her independence and living by herself. It was a whirlwind decision though, so the last few days have been a flurry of packing up her apartment and moving stuff into her new apartment (she will be discharged from the nursing home on Monday, so her new place has to be ready by then!)
In a providential way – my sister Emma and her husband Luis’s lease is up at the end of this month. They hadn’t been able to get in touch with their landlord in order to talk about renewing, so they weren’t sure what they were going to do come May 1. Providentially, all of this has worked out with my Grandma to move – which leaves her apartment open for Emma and Luis to move in! Needless to say: things have been busy. - We went to the Lake for the very first time last weekend! It was wonderful, but chilly. The kids didn’t care though – we went for walks (in the rain), spent countless hours down at the lake “fishing”, and just enjoyed being back down at the lake-house. Unfortunately, we won’t be back down to the Lake for a while – there is quite a lot coming up for us!
- Today is Kennywood Park’s opening day! As our home amusement park, we are VERY excited to finally have roller coasters open near us again! We’re heading there this morning (even though the weather is kind of crappy) – we’ll spend a few hours there, ride a few rides, check out all the new things happening around the park, and look forward to warmer summer days.
- We officially finished school this week! So-long second grade! Braelynn is so excited (and I have to admit, I am too) to finally be on summer break! She’s worked hard this year and we’ve seen tremendous progress in the things she’s learning and knowing – it’s so exciting. I already have her schoolbooks for next year, so we woke up on Thursday morning and I asked her if she was ready to start school. She looked at me and said, “Do I have to?” I laughed and said, “Nope! You’re on summer break – enjoy it!”
- Derrick and I’s anniversary is on Monday. We keep forgetting about it. I guess that’s what happens when you’ve been married for 13 years. We got a card in the mail addressed to us and we both looked at each other quizzically and said, “What is this?” Derrick opened it and we both went, “OH, right! It’s our anniversary!” Oops.
